Mario Kart 8 is the gift that keeps on giving much to the delight (or chagrin) of the Mario Kart fanbase. Originally released for the Nintendo Wii U in 2014, MK8 would see two DLC packs based around The Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing. MK8 would later make the jump to Nintendo Switch in 2017 as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which featured more characters, items, the ability to carry multiple items in a race, and a revamped battle mode.

Five years after MK8D’s release, Nintendo is adding even more Retro tracks through the Booster Course Pass. The Booster Course Pass will come in six waves, released periodically throughout 2022 and 2023. Each wave will feature two Cups of four tracks each. The first wave was released on March 18, 2022, and features the Golden Dash Cup and the Lucky Cat Cup. Both Cups bring with them some absolutely stellar tracks from throughout the MK series.

8 3DS Toad Circuit Is Your Run-Of-The-Mill Circuit Track

3DS Toad Circuit is the second track of the Golden Dash Cup and makes its return from Mario Kart 7 and Mario Kart Tour. 3DS Toad Circuit features a simplistic design, which can be attributed to being the first track of the first (Mushroom) Cup in MK7.

3DS Toad Circuit is identical in terms of layout and features. The big difference is that MK8D sports HD remastered visuals, which makes each of these tracks more bright and colorful than ever before. 3DS Toad Circuit is a good track, however, it struggles to stand out compared to the other tracks within Wave One.

7 DS Shroom Ridge Is Still A Bit On The Bland And Boring Side

DS Shroom Ridge is the second track of the Lucky Cat Cup and makes its return from MKDS. Despite the remastered HD visuals, DS Shroom Ridge still sticks out as one of the least aesthetically pleasing of the Wave One tracks. While none of these tracks are at the same visual level as the original MK8D tracks, DS Shroom Ridge is downright bland compared to the other Wave One tracks.

As for the track itself, DS Shroom Ridge was never as exciting as other traffic-based tracks from throughout the series. It does carry over the vehicles from N64 Toad’s Turnpike. Beyond that, DS Shroom Ridge doesn’t do anything all that unique in comparison to N64 Toad’s Turnpike or the currently omitted Wii Moonview Highway. DS Shroom Ridge is still an enjoyable track nonetheless.

6 GBA Sky Garden’s Recent Glow-Up Now Gets An HD Remaster

Mario Kart Every Wave One Booster Course Pass Track Ranked

GBA Sky Garden is the third track in the Lucky Cat Cup and makes its return from Mario Kart Super Circuit, MKDS, and MKT. GBA Sky Garden actually made its debut in MKT shortly after the announcement of the Booser Course Pass.

GBA Sky Garden carries over the same alterations made in MKT. GBA Sky Garden is no longer a fully flat track as there are raised sections as well as a glider section toward the end. If there’s one flaw with this version of GBA Sky Garden, it’s the lack of shortcut opportunities. There is one toward the beginning and another toward the end, but it would’ve been great to have a good high risk/high reward shortcut toward the middle. GBA Sky Garden is a great remake otherwise.

5 Tour Tokyo Blur Alters The Driving Path Each Lap

Tour Tokyo Blur is the first track of the Lucky Cat Cup and makes its return from MKT. Its inclusion, as well as Tour Paris Promenade and Tour Ninja Hideaway, was a bit of a surprise to the MK fanbase as most treated MKT as a spinoff as opposed to a mainline MK (potentially even being “Mario Kart 9”).

The fascinating gimmick with Tour Tokyo Blur and Tour Paris Promenade is that the track layout changes every lap to reflect each of the respective tracks’ variations (such as Tour Tokyo Blur 2). It’s a great way to fully showcase each of these city tracks from MKT!

4 N64 Choco Mountain Includes The Fantastic Revisions From Mario Kart Tour

N64 Choco Mountain is the third track of the Golden Dash Cup and makes its return from Mario Kart 64, MKDS, and MKT. Unlike DS Shroom Ridge, N64 Choco Mountain really benefited from this remastering. N64 Choco Mountain looks gorgeous in MK8D.

N64 Choco Mountain is based on the MKT version. The MKT version includes some minor differences such as an expanded cave section toward the beginning and a glider section right after. Both were very welcomed additions in MKT, and it’s great to see them carried over to MK8D. There are also Koopa Paratroopas that float along the sides of the track that weren’t in MKT, which is the same for GBA Sky Garden.

3 Tour Paris Promenade Eventually Has Racers Driving Backward

Tour Paris promenade is the first track of the Golden Dash Cup and makes its return from MKT. Tour Paris Promenade is yet another city-based track from MKT, and one that really goes all out to invoke feelings of Paris right down to the fully reorchestrated music.

Much like Tour Tokyo Blur, Tour Paris Promenade alters the path racers drive based on what lap it is. By the third lap, racers will practically be driving Tour Paris Promenade backward, which will require them to remain attentive throughout.

2 Wii Coconut Mall Brings The Fan-Favorite Track To The Switch

Mario Kart Every Wave One Booster Course Pass Track Ranked

Wii Coconut Mall is the fourth track in the Golden Dash Cip and makes its return from Mario Kart Wii and MK7. Wii Coconut Mall is a long-time fan-favorite track from MKWii for both its structure and its incredibly catchy, and meme-worthy, tune. Wii Coconut Mall was high on many MK players’ wishlist for a return whether as DLC, in MKT, or in the next MK.

Wii Coconut Mall is mostly the same as its MK7 counterpart. The escalators are still replaced by tread ramps that move in either direction. The glider section toward the end remains the same. Beyond aesthetic changes, the one major change is that the car section toward the end (where Miis would normally drive the vehicles) is replaced by stationary vehicles with Shy Guys on top. It’s disappointing, but there’s evidence to suggest that Wii Coconut Mall is an upcoming MKT track. MKT only recently received Mii support, so this version of Wii Coconut Mall was likely completed before the decision to bring Miis to MKT.

1 Tour Ninja Hideaway Lives Up To The Hype

Tour Ninja Hideaway is the fourth track of the Lucky Cat Cup and makes its return from MKT. Tour Ninja Hideaway is frequently cited as the best original track from MKT, so it’s incredibly exciting to see it make a quick return through the Booster Course Pass.

What makes Tour Ninja Hideaway so good, beyond its thematic design, is that it offers multiple pathways for players to take. Each lap can feel like a completely new course, similar to MK8D’s version of the other MKT courses. However, these pathways were built into Tour Ninja Hideaway from the start. Tour Ninja Hideaway is sure to be a fan-favorite from Wave One and for years to come.
