Marvels SpiderMan Remastered Who Plays Peter Parker (& Who He Replaced)

Fans of the Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man got a bit of a shock when details were announced about how the game was going to be upgraded for the PS5. Graphical enhancements like ray tracing were expected, but Insomniac also revealed that they had completely changed the face model for lead character Peter Parker. So who is the man behind the new face and who did he replace?

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is already a bit of a strange game, in that there is no way to buy it as a standalone offering. The only way to get it is to buy Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition. This version of the PS5 launch game comes with a code for Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, along with a few other goodies. Players looking to simply play their old PS4 copy of Marvel’s Spider-Man can still do so thanks to the PlayStation 5’s backwards compatibility.

The new face from Peter Parker has not been well-received by the internet. Many are put off by the younger appearance of the new face model, given that the Peter in Marvel’s Spider-Man has been crime-fighting for eight years and is out of college. The original Peter had a bit of a haggard appearance that went with years of stressful near-death experiences and constant life-juggling; that stress has been stripped away with the newer, bright-eyed face. Some more cynical reads on the recasting have also pointed out how much the new face model resembles Tom Holland, who portrays Spider-Man in the MCU, and speculate the recasting is an attempt to cash in on that fan base.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Peter Parker’s Voice/Performance Actor and Face Models

Peter Parker/Spider-Man was originally modeled after the face of actor John Bubniak. In Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered (and presumably any future games in the franchise), Peter is being modeled after the face of literal fashion model Ben Jordan. Insomniac’s Creative Director Bryan Intihar stated on Twitter that the reason for the change was because in order to make “even more believable-looking characters” for the PS5, the team needed an actor with a “better facial match” for Yuri Lowenthal. Yuri Lowenthal, who has hundreds of credits in games and television, including Mass Effect: Andromeda and Final Fantasy VII Remake, is the voice and performance actor for Peter Parker, and will continue his role going forward.

Insomniac’s argument is essentially that for Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered to take full advantage of PS5 technology, they needed a face model that looked closer to Yuri Lowenthal’s. Fans of the game can appreciate Insomniac wanting to create the best-looking game they can. Even still, the feeling remains that by recasting the face of Peter Parker, Marvel’s Spider-Man has lost an element that made so many a fan of this particular portrayal of Peter to begin with.
