In Money Heist, The Professor and his band of robbers have had dozens of problems to deal with in the two mega-heists that they have organized so far. The rebellious hostages that are always itching to be heroic and break free have been a constant source of migraines. The other thing that hasn’t given them peace is the presence of police officers.
Since The Professor’s plans have been too complex, the population of police officers called in to deal with him and his team has kept on increasing. Among them, a couple of stars have emerged. The best officers aren’t necessarily the nicest ones but those that have proven to be really efficient and also stood out as more solid characters overall.
10 Raquel “Lisbon” Murillo
Inspector Raquel Murillo is entrusted with the task of stopping the Royal Mint of Spain heist but she ends up falling in love with The Professor. In one of the Money Heist scenes that fans didn’t see coming, she actually ends up joining the robbers and starts using the alias Lisbon.
As a robber, Raquel is highly skilled. She even gets a thumbs up from The Professor in Part 5 for her ought-of-the-world battle tactics. However, as a police officer, Raquel is inept despite being a top talent. The Professor keeps running circles around her. And even though the manner in which she is easily manipulated by The Professor has more to do with the Robber-In-Chief’s intellect than Raquel’s incompetence, her decision to join them after failing to beat them inconveniences her former colleagues.
9 Benito Antoñanzas
Antoñanzas is approached by Marseille and The Professor, who are looking to make him an asset. He tries to escape but the duo captures him and offers him €1 million to switch sides.
Antoñanzas is more like Raquel, but the only difference being that the Spanish Police Force officer is motivated by money rather than love. The value that Antoñanzas adds to the Professor’s team is also greater. Through him, the robbers are able to learn that Gandia is communicating with the officers from the panic room. It’s all through him that The Professor learns where Raquel is being held after getting arrested.
8 Angel Rubio
The Deputy Investigator has been around since the first heist but he has mostly been forced to sit on the sidelines and observe. This is after he made a couple of mistakes early in the series.
As a police officer, Rubio is very reasonable. He never hesitates to call out his superiors when he feels that the actions they are sanctioning are inhumane. However, that doesn’t mean he hasn’t got his flaws. For one, he is so easily tricked. The robbers managed to put a recording device in his glasses without him even realizing it. He also doesn’t have the perceptive ability to realize that the man masquerading as ‘Salva’ is indeed The Professor.
7 Alfonso Prieto
Prieto’s main focus is to rescue the daughter of the British ambassador, Alison Parker, who is being held as a hostage during the first heist. The CNI colonel is afraid that with the daughter of a diplomat involved, the matter will become an international incident.
Prieto is depicted as a brute who would do anything to make sure the Spanish government is protected. A champion for plausible deniability, he prefers to use others to do the dirty work. Contracting Algerian policemen to interrogate Rio is a shrewd move since it erases any traces of the Spanish government’s involvement. And even though Prieto fails in his efforts to stop the robbers, he does his best.
6 Commissioner Sánchez
As Raquel’s supervisor, Commissioner Sánchez summons her on the day of her leave, ordering her to negotiate with the robbers during the Royal Mint of Spain heist. When Raquel grows tired of her feud with Colonel Prieto and tries to resign, he convinces her to stay because he knows she’s one of the best they’ve got.
Commissioner Sánchez is portrayed as a good boss who not only wants tasks to get handled in a timely manner but also wants those working under him to feel as comfortable as possible. Unlike other high-ranking officers, he prefers to do things by the book, ensuring even lawbreakers are dealt with in a manner that is just.
5 Pilar
A member of the Department of Forensics in the Spanish Police Force, Pilar is handed the case of The Professor. Quickly, she is able to determine the fingerprints on the car and the spoon the car belongs to the same person.
Working in a room where everyone appears arrogant and argumentative, Pilar stands out as the only one with a calm demeanor. She is extremely good at her job, hence the reason she is assigned time-sensitive assignments. The only unfortunate thing about Pilar is that her findings amount to nothing since Ángel becomes a victim of a car crash and is comatose before she can give him her findings.
4 Suárez
A member of the special unit known as Grupo Especial de Operaciones, Suárez is involved in most of the operations meant to bring down the robbers. The dedicated lawman works together with most of the senior officers on the show.
Suárez is sly, best seen by how he and Sierra fake Raquel’s execution, making The Professor lose his cool and become violent towards the police officers. He is a bit smarter than the rest too since it’s he, Colonel Prieto, and Alberto that discover that The Professor is Salva. And even though the robbers fled with €984 million, he can take pride in the fact that he led the attack that caused the demise of one of the smartest characters in Money Heist, Berlin.
3 Luis Tamayo
Tamayo takes over as the Chief of Operations when the CNI is brought in to stop the operations. Eager to bring the whole fiasco to an end, he contracts 8 elite but controversial Special Ops soldiers to infiltrate the Bank of Spain and kill the robbers.
Tamayo’s short temper and penchant for yelling at his subordinates make him an unlikeable character but he deserves credit for coming up with the only plan that brings the robbers to their knees. The decision to use Special Ops soldiers leads to an intense battle inside the bank that leaves even The Professor clueless on what to do. As a result of the attack, Helsinki’s leg becomes severely injured and Tokyo gets killed.
2 César Gandia
The badass Gandia is the Head of Security at the Bank of Spain. He is also responsible for protecting the governor of the institution, Mario Urbaneja.
Gandia shows just how hard-boiled he is by painfully squeezing his hands through handcuffs in order to escape when he is captured by the robbers. As a law enforcement officer, Gandia’s dedication to taking down the robbers is remarkable. He bravely strangles the strong Helsinki with a noose before capturing Nairobi and executing her. His pain tolerance is also extraordinary as he keeps going even after several parts of his body get hurt.
1 Alicia Sierra
Alicia is introduced during the second heist at the Bank of Spain. She is in charge of interrogating Rio and almost causes the death of one of the fan-favorite characters in Money Heist, Nairobi.
Thanks to her ruthlessness, Alicia is a very effective law enforcement officer. She doesn’t care about using dirty tactics to get the job done. In her biggest show of mercilessness, she lures Nairobi to the window by revealing her son is on site. This exposes Nairobi, who, in turn, gets shot. She also distinguishes herself as the most intelligent of the police officers by being the only one who figures out where The Professor is hiding. And when she corners him, he isn’t even expecting her.
