In a Reddit poll for best series guest character, fans of the Mortal Kombat franchise recently voted overwhelmingly in-favor of the character Spawn. Modern gamers are likely familiar with this legendary fighting series through its most recent iteration, Mortal Kombat 11, which was recently added to Xbox Game Pass.

Mortal Kombat 11 is one of the most well-received fighting games of the past few years, thanks to its satisfying combat, rich customization options, and delightfully campy story. As is typically the case with fighting games, players fell in love with the robust roster of playable characters. This roster includes series veterans like Sonya Blade, Liu Kang and Raiden; but developer NetherRealm Studios also opted to add a series of novelty “guest” fighters to the game. This decision proved to be a smart one, as gamers quickly fell in love with crossover characters like Rambo, The Terminator, and Robocop. While original characters like Johnny Cage stick in the minds of MK cosplayers, fan artists and Mortal Kombat purists; these guest fighters were still a welcome addition to series installments for many players.

Given it isn’t clear which guest characters – if any – will become mainstays in the franchise moving forward, Redditor Large-Wheel-4181 decided to have some fun and create a poll on the Mortal Kombat subreddit with a simple question: which guest character would fans most want to become a regular staple in the series? The poll included characters like The Joker, Leatherface and Robocop; but one challenger rose head and shoulders above the others: Spawn. At the time of writing, Spawn has around 1,200 votes cast in his favor out of over 3,000 overall votes. Robocop appears to be the least popular out of the available options, sitting at the bottom of the poll with just over 80 votes.

Gamers are already wondering what the next roster might look like, with one fan suggesting that WWE wrestlers should feature in Mortal Kombat 12. While it will certainly be important for a new Mortal Kombat game to shake things up in new ways (when it comes to playable characters), carrying over one or two fan-favorite guests might not be such a bad idea. Spawn would definitely be a solid choice if NetherRealm Studios wanted to take this approach, as fans clearly love playing as him.

Of course, players won’t know if Mortal Kombat 12 will include any crossover characters with appearances in Mortal Kombat 11 or earlier entries for a while. The next game could even lean into a live-service model, with fighters like Spawn appearing as limited-time options.
