My Hero Academia 10 Things That Make No Sense About Magne

Boku No Hero Academia or My Hero Academia depending on who you ask, is a shonen series that’s really been making waves in the genre for a while now. The show is a really interesting blend of anime and standard superhero fare, which might turn some readers off immediately.

Fortunately for the people who aren’t extremely keen on the idea of the series, it’s actually executed extremely well, with a really interesting cast of both heroes and villains. A villain who isn’t really talked about enough from the last season of the show is Magne. Let’s go ahead and dig into a few things regarding Magne that don’t quite make sense with some of the internal logic of the show.

10 Wouldn’t Something Other Than Just A Huge Magnet Served Her Better?

Magne is a really capable villain, although her main offensive weapon is a giant magnet. While this gets the job done, she also may have had a bit of an oversite here. If Magne can magnetize people, she theoretically could have carried really any metal on her that could have been magnetized at all.

This means that they could have taken a page out of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure part 5 Golden Wind’s book and she could have carried a gun like Mista, or some knives even! She would have had effectively the same powers rather than a big, unwieldy stick. Just magnetize your opponent and the bullets will be sure to hit! But nope, giant magnet apparently.

9 What Were Magne’s Past Crimes All About?

My Hero Academia 10 Things That Make No Sense About Magne

Magne has at the very least been expected of having committed 9 armed robberies, 3 murders, and 29 attempted murders. What is the deal with all of that? It’s kind of just thrown at us to explain “Yeah, watch out! Magne’s pretty bad news!” and then we never get any more of a deep dive into any of that.

It’s just a completely passing thing. There’s also the fact that Magne is one of the first people to die on-screen during the show, so couldn’t we have maybe at the very least gotten a one-off episode?

8 Why Can’t Magne Magnetize Herself?

My Hero Academia 10 Things That Make No Sense About Magne

For whatever reason, Magne’s quirk really doesn’t have too many restrictions. That being said, that also means the few restrictions there are to the quirk are particularly annoying. They also really don’t make any sense.

There’s another consideration here that’ll enter into the discussion in the next entry, but for now… Why can’t Magne magnetize herself? There really isn’t too much explanation of how the quirk actually works, but there’s nothing else about it that would imply that should be an issue.

7 Why Are Men And Women Magnetized At Opposite Poles?

My Hero Academia 10 Things That Make No Sense About Magne

This is actually kind of an issue that surpasses just the small scale of Magne on her own. There isn’t just some little thing about her that has us confused this time. The problem here is that this inconsistency in Magne’s quirk completely unearths some sort of mystery of science in the My Hero Academia world.

Why the heck are men and women at different polarities? Like sure, you could give the whole opposites spiel and leave it at that but like… no? There’s no good explanation for men and women being polarized differently. They’re the same cells.

6 Why Didn’t She Just Kill Deku When She Had The Chance?

My Hero Academia 10 Things That Make No Sense About Magne

There comes a point in the show and the manga where there’s a pretty major fight. We have Spinner and Magne after a scuffle, and they pretty much have Deku cornered.

That being said, Spinner stops Magne from killing Deku because he decides that Stain would think that Deku was a true hero. If Magne is really all about being a villain because of freedom, why would she listen to Spinner here? Talk about plot armor.

5 Who Was The Friend In Her Past That Made Her Value Freedom So Highly?

My Hero Academia 10 Things That Make No Sense About Magne

One of the biggest pieces of Magne’s personality is that she’s only really a villain because of freedom… Or at least that’s the excuse she gives herself for her own psychopathy.

She thinks that being a villain provides her with freedom in the short-term, but she also thinks that if she goes along with the plan of the League Of Villains, they’ll be completely free from the tyranny of heroes for the foreseeable future. But who was this friend who inspired pretty much Magne’s entire life philosophy, and why is she never named?

4 If Magne’s Quirk Works On Inanimate Objects Why Can’t She Magnetize Things Using The Ground?

My Hero Academia 10 Things That Make No Sense About Magne

Magne’s quirk at first seems like perhaps it only works on people, but if that were the case, she wouldn’t carry an iron rod with her all the time as her main weapon.

Also, why an iron rod now that that’s come up? Not like… Bombs or something? Anyway, there are a few times where Magne is rendered immobile, and the only thing she could potentially do is to magnetize whoever is holding her and the ground, to wrest herself free. Why wasn’t she able to do that? Especially if there was asphalt or something underneath her.

3 Were Tomura And Magne Close?

My Hero Academia 10 Things That Make No Sense About Magne

Magne generally didn’t really seem like the type to have super close friends. Aside from the nickname of Big Sis Magne, it seems like she was generally kind of gruff and rude most of the time, in addition to just being a straight-up cold-blooded killer.

That being said, after the death of Magne, Tomura was absolutely destroyed over it and decided to get revenge on Overhaul after Magne was killed by him.

2 Where Is The Big Sis Magne Nickname From?

My Hero Academia 10 Things That Make No Sense About Magne

There’s really not too much of an indication that Magne is the greatest friend, but that doesn’t stop her from having the incredibly affectionate nickname of “Big Sis”.

One wouldn’t assume that Magne was incredibly caring and nurturing as a person, but it can also be supposed that behind the scenes, the villains surely can’t just be pure evil. There must be more than that to them, right?

1 Why Would Tomura Think Revenge For Magne’s Death Would Work Out Well?

After Overhaul so cruelly blew up Magne’s torso into an entire cloud of bloody mess, one of the most important members of the League Of Shadows swears revenge on Kai Chisaki, and revenge he gets.

Tomura pulls off Overhaul’s remaining arm after he’s been pretty much maimed, rendering his quirk completely useless. That being said, he’s still alive. He could very easily escape and seek out some way to have his quirk returned to him, and when he does, Tomura best watch his back.
