New Sing 2 Trailer Shows Bono’s Rockstar Lion Taking The Stage

The new trailer for Illumination’s Sing 2 has been released, and it features U2 frontman Bono taking the stage as reclusive rockstar Clay Calloway.

Illumination releases a new trailer for the upcoming animated film Sing 2. The movie, directed by Garth Jennings, sees the return of the lovable cast of animals led by Matthew McConaughey’s koala Buster Moon. In the sequel to 2016’s Sing, Buster and friends pitch a huge theatrical experience to entertainment mogul Jimmy Crystal (a wolf voiced by Bobby Cannavale) and are forced to live up to their improvised lie by coaxing reclusive rockstar Clay Calloway (U2’s Bono) out of hiding to star in their show.

In a new trailer, posted on YouTube by Illumination, the animals, including Taron Egerton’s gorilla Johnny and Reese Witherspoon’s brave mother pig Rosita, are seen pushing themselves out of their comfort zones with high-wire stunts and high-octane choreography for the huge event. The trailer also gives fans a deeper look at Bono’s empathetic lion, an aged rocker who stepped away after the loss of his wife. It seems as though the group is able to coax Clay out of hiding, as in this trailer he strums his guitar and walks out onto a large stage. The whole trailer is set to a cover of U2’s classic song “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For,” performed here by Scarlett Johansson’s punky porcupine Ash. See the full trailer below:

Fans of Sing can expect more of the earnest, feel-good story beats the first film achieved, with the beloved animals all facing new challenges. Along with the addition of musical legend Bono, the all-star voice cast also sees Black Panther’s Letitia Wright, Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Chelsea Peretti and music star Pharrell Williams join the fun. Sing 2 promises to be the feel-good movie of the year as it hits theaters on December 22.
