Nickelodeon 5 Best Original Movies (& 5 You Totally Forgot About)

Nickelodeon has such a special space in our hearts for its family-friendly programs that consumed much of fans’ childhoods. From the Rugrats to SpongeBob SquarePants, Nickelodeon created shows about kids for kids (and sponges).

In the ’90s, Nickelodeon started creating original films that were shown on its channel. The movie that started it all for Nickelodeon was Doom Runners (1998) as the channel continues to pump out beloved original movies. However, there are a few from childhood that Nick viewers totally forgot about.

10 Best: As Told by Ginger: Summer of Camp Caprice – 6.9

Nickelodeon 5 Best Original Movies (& 5 You Totally Forgot About)

As Told By Ginger came out in 2000 and lasted for three incredible seasons. The animated show about a girl learning about life as she’s longing to be popular was all too familiar for its viewers. Along with her friends, Darren, Dodie, and Macie, Ginger was relatable with her struggles at school. The show did so well that Nickelodeon created a movie for the show. As Told by Ginger: Summer of Camp Caprice focused on Ginger going away to an all-girls summer camp but things go awry when her nemesis Courtney shows up.

9 Forgot About: The Jimmy Timmy Power Hour – 6.8

Nickelodeon 5 Best Original Movies (& 5 You Totally Forgot About)

Jimmy and Timmy Power Hour was so legendary for its time and yet everyone forgot about it 16 years later! The movie was a crossover between Nickelodeon’s Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius and The Fairly OddParents.

When Timmy has trouble with his homework, he asks Cosmo and Wanda to be sent to another universe for help. His fairy godparents ended up sending him to the same universe Jimmy Neutron was in! As always, both boys get caught up in each other’s worlds and trouble ensues but it was one heck of a movie with two of the best TV shows.

8 Best: The Wild Thornberrys: The Origin of Donnie – 6.7

Nickelodeon 5 Best Original Movies (& 5 You Totally Forgot About)

The Wild Thornberrys really hit it off with viewers when it came out in 1998. The possibility of a family roaming through various destinations in an incredible RV with a talking monkey as a best friend was indescribable. The show did so well that Nickelodeon released The Wild Thornberrys: The Origins of Donnie in 2001. In the TV movie, the family prepares for Donnie’s birthday but when he runs off into the jungle, Eliza and Irwin have no choice but to find him. Adorably, they find him with his “family”: an orangutan and her son. Fans of the series can watch The Wild Thornberrys on Hulu.

7 Forgot About: Drake & Josh Go Hollywood

Nickelodeon 5 Best Original Movies (& 5 You Totally Forgot About)

Kids in the 2000s fell hard for the goofy stepbrother duo, Drak and Josh. The two teens were extreme opposites but came together and became best friends. The show did so well that Nickelodeon created two films for the show; the first being Drake & Josh Go Hollywood.

With Drake and Josh’s parents away on a cruise, they sent their sister Megan on a plane to Denver to see her friend. But in a sudden twist, they realize they put her on the wrong plane and she ended up in Los Angeles. This meant Drak and Josh had to fly to Los Angeles to find their sister.

6 Best: Rocket Power: Race Across New Zealand – 6.3

Nickelodeon 5 Best Original Movies (& 5 You Totally Forgot About)

Rocket Power gave kids the adventure of a lifetime and inspired young viewers to take a leap and try new things. The show was based on four kids (Otto, Reggie, Sam, and Twister) as they went on adventures in a beach town in California. This series was so good that Nickelodeon created a movie called Rocket Power: Race Across New Zealand.

The TV movie took place during the Winter Olympics with the show’s foursome traveling to New Zealand to compete in The Junior Waikikamukau Games.

5 Forgot About: The Last Day of Summer

Nickelodeon 5 Best Original Movies (& 5 You Totally Forgot About)

Unlike a few of the other TV movies on this list, The Last Day of Summer was not based on an original Nickelodeon show — it was its own independent movie. In the film, a boy named Luke prepares with his band, Steel Monkey, for a local talent show. He and his band are filled with jitters because they’re about to enter middle school and want to make a good impression. But when Luke embarrasses himself in front of a girl he likes, he wishes he could start the entire day over. He got his wish when he’s accidentally knocked unconscious and has a do-over.

This Nickelodeon film wasn’t the network’s best but it wasn’t its worst. It’s just one of those films fans often forget about.

4 Best: The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius: Win, Lose, and Kaboom

Nickelodeon 5 Best Original Movies (& 5 You Totally Forgot About)

In 2004, Nickelodeon premiered The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius: Win, Lose, and Kaboom. With Jimmy Neutron being an iconic show for the network, a movie seemed like the next best step and gave Disney a run for its money.

In the film, a mysterious rock falls on Earth from space. The town isn’t sure what to do with the rock but Jimmy pleads to expect it instead of ruining it. He knows he can decode the messages on the rock but it’s taken away to a nearby military base before he has the chance to investigate. What’s a boy genius to do? Break into the military base, of course.

3 Forgot About: Shredderman Rules

Nickelodeon 5 Best Original Movies (& 5 You Totally Forgot About)

The 2007 film Shredderman Rules is often forgotten about but it’s a live-action comedy nonetheless. The film was based on the book series Shredderman and focused on eighth-grader, Nolan Byrd. When Nolan has to do a media project, he decides to film all the ways the school bully Bubba Bixby tortures him and other students. Things get tricky when Nolan finds out who Bubba’s father is and exposes his dirty laundry on top of his son’s. In the end, Nolan’s expose is a success and all the antagonists get what they deserve.

2 Best: The Fairly OddParents: Abra-Catastrophe!

Nickelodeon 5 Best Original Movies (& 5 You Totally Forgot About)

The Fairly OddParents is one of Nickelodeon’s longest-running TV shows. Lasting for 10 seasons, the show lit up kids’ imagination with Timmy Turner and his fairy godparents. It was like Christmas every day for Timmy who had ultimate wishes granted.

The Fairly OddParents: Abra-Catastrophe! was the show’s first movie and revolved around Timmy celebrating his fairy-versary after keeping his fairies a secret for an entire year. To celebrate, he’s given a magical muffin where he’ll have rule-free wishes after eating it. But after Mr. Crocker confiscates the muffin, Timmy is set on an adventure to get it back.

1 Forgot About: Best Player

iCarly’s Jennette McCurdy and Jerry Trainor starred in 2011s Best Player (although the film had no connection to the iCarly world). In the movie, a man named Q is an avid gamer who still lives with his parents and struggles to get by. But after he’s forced to find a new place to live, he decides to enter a gaming tournament to win the cash prize to buy his parents’ house from them. The problem is, he would be up against another game he can’t defeat, Prodigy. Q and his best friend go on a mission to find Prodigy to learn how to defeat her so he can win the tournament.
