ObiWan Kenobi TV Show May Include Clone Wars Flashback Scenes

The news for Obi-Wan Kenobi keeps dribbling out, with the latest development suggesting the show will have flashbacks to Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Prior to the arrival of The Mandalorian, The Clone Wars held the distinction of being the lone full-length canonized television series in the Star Wars franchise, though questions about its legitimacy always arose from fans who didn’t want to invest in an animated program.

From Cartoon Network to Netflix to Disney+, Star Wars: The Clone Wars lasted seven seasons before concluding earlier this year. The animated show detailed what took place over the Clone Wars, with Obi-Wan Kenobi (voiced by James Arnold Taylor) serving as one of the primary protagonists. Beyond plot, one of the most important aspects of the show was the character of Ahsoka Tano, who will be further inserted into the franchise when Rosario Dawson is rumored to play Ahsoka in season 2 of The Mandalorian.

Now, Obi-Wan Kenobi could harken back to Star Wars: The Clone Wars, tightening the connection between the franchise’s television shows. ComicBookMovie picked up a rumor from Kessel Run Transmissions suggesting some sort of Clone Wars flashback sequences may take place in the new live-action show. Unless there are going to be animated elements to Obi-Wan Kenobi – which doesn’t seem likely – that means there could be live-action reenactments of events that took place on Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Flashbacks to the series may also go a long way to explain the other big rumor about the new series: the return of Hayden Christensen in the role of Anakin Skywalker. The series is set to take place between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, meaning Anakin has already transitioned into becoming Darth Vader. Creating a new crossing of the paths between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader before their famous Death Star battle makes little sense, but teaming Obi-Wan and Anakin back up via Star Wars: The Clone Wars flashbacks is a much more viable theory.

Invoking The Clone Wars gives Obi-Wan Kenobi the opportunity to tap into a vast wealth of characters and locations that likely wouldn’t be at the show’s disposal without that mechanism. It may even give creatives the opportunity to bring Ahsoka Tano into the fold as well. But perhaps most importantly, flashbacks would continue to fill in gaps between the live-action prequel movies. All in all, this rumor is another hint at what’s to come on Obi-Wan Kenobi, which remains without a release date on Disney+.
