With the latest upcoming volume, One Piece’s connecting set of covers will be complete. This set, covering more of the ongoing Wano Country arc, features two of the biggest threats the Straw Hat Pirates have faced. The crew is ready for action, and with this connecting cover set, fans will be too.
Connecting covers allow for broader pictures to be formed out of a series’ successive entries. Both Western comics and manga utilize connecting covers and while One Piece tends to keep its volumes independent of one another in terms of outer art, it has a big reason to change things up. The series has hit several major milestones this year, reaching its thousandth chapter, one-hundredth volume, and its one-thousandth episode in the anime of the same name. To commemorate the 100th volume of One Piece, creator Eiichiro Oda is featuring the biggest arc yet in a special way.
The next volume of One Piece—the 101st—has been revealed. Shonen Jump News has shared the cover for One Piece Volume 101, which features Kaido. Kaido has been the primary antagonist of the Wano Country Arc. He is joined on the cover by Big Mom and members of the Straw Hat Pirate crew. All three volumes (99–101) are part of the Wano Country arc—one of the longest arcs in the series thus far. Each of these volumes unite, framing the 100th volume in the center. Screen Rant has connected all three volumes below:
While not common for the series, this kind of connectivity has been done before. Volumes 21 and 22 were also connecting covers, featuring Monkey D. Luffy’s crew facing off against Sir Crocodile’s team in the Arabasta arc—the central villains of One Piece’s larger Arabasta saga. Now, the feat is being accomplished once more. Volume 99 features Big Mom, the main antagonist that the series’ heroes faced in the Whole Cake Island arc. She is still present as a secondary antagonist in the current arc. It also features Jinbe, Chopper, Usopp, and Nico Robin. Luffy is the central focus of Volume 100, framed by his friends and family (Portgas D. Ace, Sanji, and Roronoa Zoro), as well as a major player in the Wano Country arc, Yamato (Kaido’s daughter). The newest volume makes Kaido the star of the show in his monstrous hybrid dragon form. He is joined by the remaining major Straw Hat Pirate crew members, Brook, Nami, and Franky.
This newest set of volumes continue the ongoing story that began back in Volume 90, Chapter 909. As of now, the series is on Chapter 1032, with the battle for Wano Country still ongoing. Luffy and Kaido are still facing off and many major battles are being fought. It will take every ounce of the Straw Hat crew’s strength to come out on top against their most powerful foe yet. One Piece has hit several milestones, as celebrated within this amazing trio of volumes, but the series still has quite a bit of story left for fans to enjoy.
