Jamie Fraser is one of the main characters of Outlander, but not everything about the Scottish warrior makes total sense.

Highland warrior Jamie Fraser is one of the most interesting characters in the Starz original series Outlander. As the main protagonist, he is always involved in captivating plot angles. Jamie also makes up on of TV’s best couples with the other protagonist Claire.
Jamie often values honor and duty. He protects those he loves and doesn’t hesitate to go into battle. Despite being stubborn too, he is often liked by those close to him. However, not everything about Jamie is adorable. The following things about the man make no sense.
10 Spared Black Jack Randall’s Life
In the first season, Black Jack Randall kidnapped Claire and kept her at Ft. William. Not one to let the woman he loved suffer, Jamie devised a plan with the Highlanders to break Claire free.
Jamie ended up in a duel with Randall where he had an open opportunity to end the villain’s life. Surprisingly, he decided to go the Batman way and adopt the “no killing” rule. Jamie knew the kind of man Randall was. His decision was a poot on since the villain ended up causing too much havoc in the long run.
9 Criminal Ventures
Jamie has never been an angel but his morality ranks higher than that of most people. He was even enraged when he saw a photo from the 20th century of Brianna wearing a bikini. This makes his choice of career in the third season all the more baffling.
Jamie ended up being a smuggler and due to his criminal activities, he became a wanted man. Jamie’s conscience wouldn’t have allowed him to go that route so it’s surprising that he decided to venture into crime anyway.
8 Lavish Lifestyle
For someone who is always running from enemies or raiding, it’s strange that he manages to maintain a lavish lifestyle wherever he is. He keeps on dressing expensively and for a strange reason, he is so well-connected that he keeps getting invited to lavish parties wherever he travels to.
Jamie never has plenty of coin or property. He is not a known wealthy individual. So why is life so smooth for him? Whether he is in Paris or down in Jamaica, Jamie never lacks.
7 Keeping William In The Dark About His Paternity
Jamie was blackmailed by Geneva Dunsany—the daughter of Lord and Lady Dunsany—into getting intimate. She ended up pregnant and gave birth to William Ransom. William has always believed that the eight Earl of Ellesmere, Ludovic Ransom is his father.
Jamie clearly likes the boy. When William drifted into Cherokee territory and got threatened by the locals, Jamie was forced to save him. He likes talking to the boy too. So, why has he resisted the urge to just tell William that he is his real father?
6 Marrying Laoghaire
Here is an occasion where the Starz series differs from the books. In the series, Jamie was aware that Laoghaire was responsible for the defamation of Claire. She had been accused of being a witch. Despite having this knowledge, he didn’t resist marrying her when he was away from Claire.
In the books, he wasn’t aware of Laoghaire’s schemes so his actions there were understandable. But there was no excuse for him doing so in the series. Luckily for him, the marriage wasn’t a deal-breaker for Claire when the two finally reunited.
5 Not Telling Claire He Married Laoghaire
Marrying Laoghaire was already a terrible thing to do but Jamie still managed to top up on the mistake by not telling Claire about it right away. She found out herself when Laoghaire’s two children walked in, one of them referring to Jamie as “father.”
Laoghaire then walked in to confront Jamie as she always did. Given how much he loved Claire, it was unlike him to not tell her. Yes, they had been apart for a long time but given their history, she deserved to know. And the normal Jamie wouldn’t have kept this bit of information from her.
4 The Battle Of Culloden
It was dramatic and emotional when Jamie chose to protect Claire’s life by sending her back through the Craigh Na Dun stones right before the intense Battle of Culloden. The two lovers felt that this was the only way. But was it really the wise thing to do?
Maybe it was. But why did Jamie choose to stay and go into battle with the Highlanders instead of going with Claire? It is obvious that Claire has always mattered more to him. And she was pregnant too. They could have figured things out together on the other side. But despite his love, he was so willing to let her go.
3 Doubting His Own Daughter
In the eighth episode of Season 4, Brianna was brutally assaulted and raped in Wilmington. She had found Stephen Bonnet gambling her mother’s valuable ring and when she offered to buy it back, he took her to a room in the back and raped her. He then gave her back the ring claiming it was payment for the encounter.
Jamie was furious when he learned about the incident. He first thought that Roger was responsible so he attacked him. Later on, he thought that Brianna had lied about the incident. This made her very angry. He tried to make up for that but he had already hurt her feelings.
2 Surviving Everything
It’s great to keep the hero alive but sometimes it becomes too unrealistic. Jamie is a likable lad but he tends to survive too many dangerous things. There has never really been a serious threat of him dying despite having gone through a couple of life-threatening situations.
He survived days of endless torture, came out of the harsh battle of Culloden without serious wounds, fled from, the English soldiers, remained largely unaffected by disease outbreaks, and survived when his ship crashed in Jamaica.
1 Believing Claire’s Time Travel Story
When Claire confessed to Jamie that she was from the future, he believed her right away. Love surely is blind but he should have at least have had several questions that would enable him to confirm her claims. It didn’t make sense for a man like him to trust so easily.
He came from a period where treachery, deceit, and backstabbing were common. It wasn’t like he had encountered other people who had time-traveled before. The whole concept should have come off as weird and hard-to-believe to him. He also never asked for more details when Claire brought up things from the future like vaccination.
