Marvel Studios is looking to introduce three teams that are more powerful than the Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 4. The MCU is currently in a transition period after the end of the Infinity Saga and the defeat of Thanos. Avengers: Endgame also marked the final outing of the original Avengers roster with several members of the team permanently retiring from active duty or killed.
Coming into Phase 4, the status of the Avengers as a team remains unclear. So far, projects such as WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which are both set in the aftermath of Endgame focused on individual/team-up storylines. There’s no great threat yet to necessitate the reconvening of a new roster for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. The fact that Marvel Studios has yet to announce an Avengers 5 movie implies that they are not rushing to get to another outing again for the MCU’s premier team.
While the Avengers take a backseat in the MCU’s Phase 4 in the meantime, that doesn’t mean that the MCU is holding back on superhero squads. In fact, Phase 4 has at least three teams lined up — and all of them are infinitely more powerful than the Avengers.
The Eternals
Marvel Studios is set to debut the ancient team in Chloé Zhao’s Eternals. Created by the Celestials, the Eternals are powerful beings who are essentially immortals. They have been in existence for thousands of years, quietly living among human beings who are mostly unaware of their powers. The Eternals’ narrative will span centuries, but its main story will take place on the heels of Endgame. Each Eternals team member has their own set of vast powers. Basically, it’s what the Avengers would be like if all of them were at least as powerful as Thor.
The Marvels
When Captain Marvel was introduced, she was deemed to be one of, if not the most powerful hero in the MCU. She battled Thanos one-on-one in Endgame and had the Mad Titan not used the Power Stone on her, she would’ve won. In The Marvels, she is joined by two other super-powered beings in Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan. Not much is known about the extent of the pair’s powers thus far, but in the comics, both have all the prototypical superhero capabilities. In WandaVision, Monica Rambeau appears to have the ability to view and manipulate energy across the electromagnetic spectrum and she also has kinetic energy absorption, making her almost indestructible. It’s a bit difficult to gauge what Ms. Marvel is capable of since she hasn’t debuted yet, but in print, she’s best known for her ability to elongate and add mass to specific parts of her body.
Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch, and Loki
On the heels of the Loki series finale, unconfirmed reports broke that the God of Mischief will also be appearing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This makes him the third main Marvel Cinematic Universe character to join the film, the other one being Scarlet Witch, who comes from the events of WandaVision. All of these three heroes are well-versed with various forms of sorcery, but each one uses their powers differently, and each one has recently leveled up in their powers. Together, they make up a significantly strong team, which is needed considering that the multiverse has now been unleashed. For what it’s worth, Marvel Studios recently dubbed Wanda to be its most powerful being given her destiny as the Scarlet Witch, and what makes her more dangerous is the fact that her abilities are still evolving as she learns from the Darkhold.
