PlayStation 4 Exclusive Games Coming in 2019

PlayStation 4 owners are in for a real treat in 2019, at least when it comes to exclusive games on the consoles. Some massive titles are headed their way, thus making 2019 a year where it’s good to be a PlayStation gamer.

Sony just concluded its fifth year with the PS4, but the console remains popular among gamers. It continues to break sales records, and recently had a total of over 86 million units sold in its lifetime, beating out Xbox 360’s lifetime sales. Five years, though, is a long time, meaning that the PlayStation 5 could see its life cycle end in a few years. A lot of speculation now surrounds the PlayStation 5 in the industry, with hints that Sony may announce the PS4’s successor next year for a release in 2020.

But that’s still two years away, and that means that there are still a lot of great games releasing exclusively on the PS4. Some of the games expected in 2019 are probably some of the most highly-anticipated games in recent years. Not only will Naughty Dog finally release The Last of Us 2, a follow-up to its 2013 zombie action adventure title, but Hideo Kojima should, hopefully, release Death Stranding, his first title since his controversial departure from Konami. The new year will bring a little something for everyone on the PlayStation 4.

Although the zombie genre seems to be overdone nowadays, with many undead video games getting overshadowed by The Last of Us 2, there’s another post-apocalyptic title coming exclusively to the PS4 that fans might want to check out. Days Gone is a survival horror adventure that follows a former outlaw now bounty hunter through a world ravaged by a global pandemic that killed most humans and turned the rest into zombies, the kind of zombies that evolve. Days Gone also features a dynamic weather system, as well as a day-night cycle that affects zombies, too: they’re a lot faster and aggressive at night, similar to Dying Light.

The Last of Us 2

Naughty Dog spent the last half of 2018 releasing trailers for The Last of Us 2, including a gameplay trailer at E3 that looked so good that several gaming industry professionals attempted to claim that it was fake. The developer assured fans The Last of Us 2’s gameplay was real; however, they weren’t as forthcoming about the release date. The Last of Us 2 is expected to release in 2019, and it picks up several years after The Last of Us, in a post-apocalyptic world where little Ellie is all grown up and fighting zombies on her own.

Imagine being one of the last samurai to exist on the Japanese island of Tsushima during the first Mongol invasion in 1274. This is the premise behind Ghost of Tsushima, Sucker Punch’s action-adventure title set for release in 2019. The game will feature a vast open world for players to explore based on that historical setting while getting a chance to step into the shoes of a samurai warrior named Jin, who must learn to master a new fighting style called the “way of the ghost.” His mission is to defeat the Mongols and fight for his and his people’s freedom.

Death Stranding

Although no release date is available yet for Death Stranding, the general consensus is that it will arrive in 2019. The hype behind Death Stranding is real, too, because it’s the first game that Kojima will release after his departure from Konami. Trailers and teasers, however, show a title that seems complicated and confusing and entirely too enigmatic, but fans are still clamoring to get their hands on the game that features such massive stars as Norman Reedus, Guillermo del Toro, Mads Mikkelsen, and Lindsay Wagner. It has something to do with the connection between life and death, but the rest of the plot remains a mystery.
