Razer Unveils Worlds Smartest Face Mask But You Cant Buy One Yet

Razer unveiled ‘Project Hazel’ at CES 2021 and claimed it is the smartest face mask ever. Although Razer is more commonly thought of as a gaming company, it is only one of many tech-focused businesses that have recently looked to translate their industry expertise into products that can assist with helping to fight the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Almost as soon as the outbreak took hold and masks were actively encouraged, many companies started looking at ways they could use their infrastructure and manufacturing setups to help. In some cases, this was simply helping to produce more masks while, in others, the focus was more on helping to quickly ramp up ventilator production. Razer was one of the companies that was quick to respond with the announcing of its own surgical face mask.

Unlike the previous version, Razer’s new Project Hazel mask is on another level. It isn’t just a N95 medical-grade respirator, but one that’s backed up by various tech features. For example, there’s a special lightning system that can adjust to the environment to ensure facial expressions are easier to see, even in dark conditions. Likewise, there’s a mic and amplifier which, coupled with the company’s VoiceAmp technology, helps to overcome any issues with muffled speech while wearing the mask. For those in need of a more unqiue look, the mask also comes with Razer Chroma-powered customizable lighting zones.

With lighting and mic features included, it’s probably not surprising to hear the mask is powered by a battery that requires charging. To help with this, the mask comes with its own case that uses a disinfecting UV-light interior to sterilize the mask at the same time as replenishing the battery. When out of the case, the mask is capable of holding enough of a charge for all-day use, according to Razer.

The Only Problem Is You Can’t Buy A Razer Smart Mask Yet

Although Razer has now announced its new smart face mask, there’s currently no word on how much it will cost or when it will be available to buy. In fact, it may never become available for purchase, considering this is more of a concept announcement than anything else. However, the company has said it plans to continue working on the smart mask concept and will utilize “rigorous testing and user feedback” to make any design changes it feels will improve the mask’s functionality and performance.

Whether or not Razer’s smart mask ever makes it to market, it is yet another example of how companies are now thinking outside the box and on how they can utilize their own unique technologies to offer something useful to consumers at a time when slowing the spread continues to be a priority. Coronavirus aside, this was not the only concept showcased at CES 2021 by Razer, with the company also having unveiled its Project Brooklyn immersive gaming chair as well.
