Netflix’s new film Red Notice boasts a cast of A-list actors in roles for which they seem well-suited. However, despite top talent, the film is receiving mediocre reviews from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The film had a limited theatrical release and begins streaming on November 12th.

The film centres around two art thieves, Nolan Booth (Ryan Reynolds) and The Bishop (Gal Gadot), competing to steal three golden eggs which are rumoured to have belonged to Cleopatra. FBI Agent John Hartley (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) is tasked with capturing Bishop. However, soon the unlikely pair team up in an effort to capture the elusive Bishop. Along the way are many double-crosses, triple-crosses, and clever jokes.

There have been many negative reviews of Red Notice, as critics feel it’s familiar and trope-heavy. However, the jury is still out on the audience’s verdict. One thing is for certain: with a star-studded cast, this is sure to draw viewers for Netflix.

Dwayne Johnson as John Hartley

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson stars as FBI agent John Hartley. Hartley is the typical cop-type character. He is a strong tough-guy type ready to put criminals away. Johnson is a wrestler-turned-actor. He is best recognized for the Jumanji reboots, as well as appearing in the Fast & Furious franchise as Hobbs. He is also known for voicing Maui in the hit animated film Moana. Recently, he starred in Disney’s Jungle Cruise alongside Emily Blunt. Johnson is having a hard time shaking typecasting as a buff, strong, action star, though he does well in those roles.

Ryan Reynolds as Nolan Booth

Ryan Reynolds also headlines Netflix’s action movie as Nolan Booth. Booth is a wisecracking art thief. This smooth talker often drops references to other films as he steals art under Hartley’s nose. The character is similar to a lot of other famous Reynolds characters. The actor is known for playing action heroes with a strong sense of humour. This includes the fourth-wall-breaking Deadpool films, in which he plays the titular character. Reynolds is also known for his starring role in the cast of Free Guy.

Gal Gadot as Sarah Black/The Bishop

The Bishop is the foil to Booth and Hartley, becoming the reason the pair are forced to team up. She is a smooth art thief, perhaps an even better one than Booth. It’s interesting that she is stealing Cleopatra’s art as Gadot herself has been cast as the Egyptian Queen in an upcoming film. Gal Gadot’s fame rose when she was cast as Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman. She has gone on to star in Wonder Woman and its sequel Wonder Woman 1984. She is set to play the Evil Queen in Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

Red Notice Supporting Cast & Characters

Chris Diamantopoulos as Sotto Voce: Sotto Voce is a Bond-villain type character. Diamantopoulous currently voices ROBOTUS on Netflix’s Inside Job. He is also known for being part of the documentary crew for the final season of The Office.

Ritu Arya as Inspector Urvashi Das: This inspector works for Interpol, trying to stop and recover stolen art. She tries to track down the thieves in this film. Arya is best known for playing Lila Pitts in The Umbrella Academy. She has also appeared in Doctor Who as well as the film Last Christmas.

Ivan Mbakop as Tambwe: Mbakop is a newcomer who has appeared in Reminiscence and The Good Lord Bird.
