Resident Evil Welcome To Raccoon City The 10 Best Kills In The Movie

Warning: The following contains SPOILERS for Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City

When it comes to creative, brutal kills, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City seems like it’s just getting started. However, there is a slew of memorable deaths that mix in nicely with the standard zombie headshot.

From hero to villain, some in various stages of mutation, Welcome to Raccoon City does manage to pick and choose who receives a brutal demise. The movie has a nice habit of having particularly odious characters get the worst of both worlds: zombification then a harsh end. Furthermore, the zombies in the film seem semi-conscious, so it’s almost as if some of these characters die twice in the same movie.

10 Swarmed: Richard Aiken

The best Resident Evil movies always have someone who can be labeled cannon fodder. Richard Aiken is one of two members of the cast who exclusively serve this purpose. Unlike the other, slightly more memorable kill, Aiken’s is just boring.

One second he’s at the top of a staircase, then there’s one zombie, then there’s 20. Before long, Aiken is under a mountain of slashing nails and gnashing teeth. It’s pretty mundane and standard for a zombie movie.

9 Even In A Jail Cell That Was Avoidable: Ben Bertolucci

Ben Bertolucci may be one of Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City’s most intelligent characters, but he makes one heck of a stupid decision later in the film.

Bertolucci is the conspiracy theorist who ends up being right. This alone makes him seem clever, but he also speaks like someone who reads 4 books a week. Even still, trapped in a jail cell with one other (changing) man, the character has a critical error of judgment. He’s at least partially aware of what his cellmate is going through, so why he chooses to back closer to him (while even holding Leon S. Kennedy’s gun) is baffling. Naturally, Bertolucci receives a neck bite for his poor decision-making.

8 Distracted By The Game: Brad Vickers

STARS helicopter pilot Brad Vickers is probably the least relevant member of the team. His death, however, ends up proving important for the progression of the narrative.

Distracted by a video game, Vickers is yanked from the chopper by a zombie. It’s more or less played for a laugh, but this results in the helicopter smashing through the Spencer Mansion. Jill Valentine saves Albert Wesker, who was in the midst of betraying not just her, but the remainder of the team as well.

7 Shot To Near-Death By Jill Valentine: Albert Wesker

After Albert Wesker reveals his intentions and motivation to Jill Valentine, she’s naturally taken aback. She even puts together that he knew the mansion and everyone in it would be shortly destroyed. He was going to allow her death just for money.

But this isn’t why Valentine shoots him. It’s when Wesker has “killed” Dr. Birkin and is now aiming the gun at the man’s daughter. Wesker apologizes to Valentine and Chris Redfield then seemingly succumbs to his wounds. Interestingly enough, this was foreshadowed in the first act of the film when Valentine jokingly fires a suction cup dart at his head. However, in the post-credits scene, Wesker is awakened by none other than Ada Wong, who gives him his trademark sunglasses.

6 Swiftly Shot: Annette Birkin

Wesker shoots Dr. Birkin as he spins around with a gun of his own. Once it leaves the doctor’s hand, his wife goes for it. Her impending death rings as particularly brutal for two reasons.

The first is how quickly it transpires. Her hand grasps the gun, she rises from the floor, and she’s gone. More terrifying is how her daughter is watching in plain view. The woman was just trying to protect her family, and because of Wesker’s greed, she lost her life for it.

5 Grabbed By The Licker: Brian Irons

Admittedly, Chief Irons’s death scene has an air of predictability, but it leads to something much better immediately after.

Lisa Trevor has appeared, showing herself to Leon S. Kennedy, then Claire Redfield. She’s holding her finger to her mouth, shushing them. They soon find out why, as the licker’s tail comes down from the ceiling, grabs Irons, yanks him up, and starts to feast. Then, it becomes Trevor’s time to shine.

4 Beaten With A Trash Can: The Cerberus

Chief Brian Irons nearly dies earlier in the film. After he’s abandoned his post at the Racoon City Police Department, he’s barred from exiting the city (with bullets).

Then, when he returns to the RCPD, there’s his interestingly-lit parking garage scene. This is where the film’s rendition of the Cerberus gets to shine. Chief Irons haphazardly fires his six shots then is saved in the nick of time by Claire Redfield. In her hands is a metal trash bin, now covered with zombie-dog blood.

3 Ugly Run-In With A Rocket: William Birkin

Far from Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City’s most likable character, William Birkin does at least get a cool death.

Shot by Wesker, he’s bleeding out. But he’s also injected himself with the “G-Virus.” Before long, he’s growing eyeballs on shoulders and barking insults at Chris, who once considered the man a paternal figure. Chris gets his shots, and Birkin seemingly dies. However, his real death comes on the train, as the lead group of characters attempts to escape Raccoon City. The Birkin monster reappears, only to have Leon S. Kennedy kill it with a rocket launcher.

2 Bitten By The Cerberus: The Trucker

Resident Evil Welcome To Raccoon City The 10 Best Kills In The Movie

A staple of the best Resident Evil movies is Patient Zero. For Welcome to Raccoon City, Patient Zero is the creepy truck driver from the film’s first act.

After he hits someone with his truck, he exits (along with Claire) only to hurl expletives into the air. That and his touching Claire’s leg without any semblance of permission lets the audience know that this guy’s time is limited. And it is, as his trusty canine companion (who has just licked up zombie blood) bites him on the hand. Before long, the trucker is hurling his 18-wheeler towards the police station. It flips over and explodes. This is when the highlight of his elongated death occurs, as the truck driver slowly walks into the station, consumed in flame, like Michael Myers at the end of Halloween II.

1 The Licker: Jaw Ripped Off By Lisa Trevor

The best death in the movie (by a landslide) isn’t even a human’s. Once the Licker comes in and uses its tongue to rip Chief Irons from the ground, the audience knows that this thing will either kill or be killed.

Were it not for Lisa Trevor, the result would almost certainly be the former. Claire and Leon are very nearly slaughtered, but the tortured Lisa Trevor leaps on the thing’s back, then she strangles it, and knocks the lower half of its jaw from the rest of its exposed-brain noggin.
