RHOA Cynthia Responds to NeNes Comments About Missing Greggs Memorial

Former The Real Housewives of Atlanta star Cynthia Bailey has set the record straight on her standing with her former co-star NeNe Leakes’ comments about her not attending Gregg Leakes’ memorial services. Gregg died of colon cancer on September 1. He died in his home and was surrounded by all his children, his wife NeNe, and very close loved ones. On September 6, Gregg’s celebration of life was held at NeNe’s Linnethia Lounge in Atlanta. Some past and present RHOA stars, including Lisa Wu, Porsha Williams, Phaedra Parks, Eva Marcille, and Marlo Hampton, attended the celebration of life and paid their last respects to Gregg. Even Kenya Moore attended the memorial despite her longstanding feud with NeNe.

However, NeNe’s former bestie, Cynthia Bailey, did not attend Gregg’s memorial services, and this did not seem to go down well with her. NeNe recently appeared on a radio program and spoke about Cynthia’s absence after Gregg’s death. NeNe called Cynthia out for not attending Gregg’s repast ceremony but revealed she came to see her in her lounge a week later after everything was done. NeNe admitted it is hard to explain “Housewives” and said it is almost like a dysfunctional family. However, she said the housewives reached out and sent her flowers after Gregg’s death. Despite the gesture, NeNe could not understand why such wealthy women combined to send her a bouquet of flowers. She wondered why they came together to send a bouquet of flowers when they all can spend $200 individually on flowers.

Meanwhile, Cynthia has responded to NeNe’s comments about her absence at Gregg’s celebration. She was a guest on E! News’ Daily Pop and explained to host Justin Sylvester, and fellow guest host Loni Love her reasons for not being present at Gregg’s memorial. Cynthia acknowledged that NeNe is still mourning her late husband, and no one can tell another person how to mourn. She also said, “However, I do think that—you know, speaking for myself—I came with the best of intentions. I was not able to make it to Gregg’s celebration but it was my mission in life to make sure I connected with NeNe once I went back to Atlanta. And I did.”

Cynthia said she was surprised by NeNe’s comments because their meeting went very well. She explained, “When we did connect, for me, it was even better than if I had gone to the celebration because I got to spend some real time with her one on one.” The former RHOA star reminisced about her and her former bestie’s activities during her visit. Cynthia said it felt like the way it was meant to be because she felt like she had at least reconnected with her old friend on just a respectful level, which was why she visited. She added, “I’m very clear that we’re not friends any longer. But in the spirit of the beloved Gregg Leakes, I wanted to go and sit with my old friend.” During her interview, Cynthia also spoke about NeNe’s comments about the RHOA co-stars coming together to buy her a bouquet of flowers. She said everyone was going to send flowers and had no problem doing so.

Cynthia found it embarrassing to be addressing the flowers issue but did so nonetheless since NeNe decided to put it out. She explained that the housewives thought it would make more impact if they handled the flower situation as a group. The 54-year-old said any of the housewives could buy and send flowers. Hence, she thought NeNe would appreciate the gesture and thank them for figuring it out. Cynthia said none of the people who sent those flowers to NeNe were in a great place with her, but they still decided to do something out of respect for Gregg. Cynthia was hurt by NeNe’s comments but acknowledged that she is grieving her husband’s demise. She concluded by saying her former best friend is a good person and was in a stage of grief, which she will come back from.

Cynthia has done well to address NeNe’s comments and set the records straight without stoking the fires even further. By acknowledging that NeNe is grieving her husband’s death, The Real Housewives of Atlanta star showed she is sympathetic towards her old friend, even if she was hurt by her comments. It is also good that Cynthia took her time to explain her and the other housewives’ thinking in buying a bouquet of flowers as a group rather than individually despite their issues with NeNe. The housewives owed it to themselves to pay their respects to Gregg, and they did so in the best way they deemed fit. NeNe has a right to feel how she does about everything. However, one can only hope that she comes around and sees her former co-stars reasoning and appreciate them instead of being critical.
