While the show always brought the laughs, some episodes of Schitt’s Creek were surprisingly emotional. Whether it be with relationships or characters struggling with things, these moments really tugged at the heartstrings and brought some tears to the eyes of fans.

While hosting a singles week in the town, Alexis decides to finally tell Ted how she feels about him to get it off her chest. As someone who is usually so confident, this moment of vulnerability in Alexis is very hard to watch and shows just how heartbroken she is to have lost him.

After finding a spark with a motel reviewer named Emir, Stevie seems to have found a relationship that really makes her happy.

When at a motel award show, Stevie tries to make plans with Emir only to find out he wants to keep things casual. Given how introverted Stevie is, it’s clear to see how painful it is for her to put herself out there like that only to have her heart broken.

Another wonderful relationship in the show is between David and Patrick. While the relationship helps David find real love for the first time, it also gives Patrick the opportunity to be true to himself and date a man for the first time in his life.

When it comes time to meet Patrick’s parents, Johnny accidentally outs Patrick to them as they did not know he was gay. Johnny has acknowledged that he had not always been the best father in the past, but after moving to Schitt’s Creek, he and Moira try to be better in their parental roles. So when David and Patrick announce their engagement, Johnny tries to step up and give Patrick “the talk.”

Patrick seems to see what Johnny is getting at and tells him how much David means to him and how he is always going to treat him right. Though this wasn’t the talk Johnny had in mind, it reduces Johnny to tears.

Eventually, Ted comes home to surprise Alexis and they both face the hard truth. Though they love each other, they realize their lives are taking them in opposite directions. The scene of them acknowledging how they have made each other better people is a devastating yet loving breakup.

2 Start Spreading The News (Season 6, Episode 13)

When Johnny succeeds in getting an investment for his motel franchise, the Rose family can finally leave Schitt’s Creek. David is thrilled by the news at first, but then it becomes clear that Patrick had hoped to start their own life in this town together.

David and Stevie visit the house Patrick had planned to buy for David and discuss the future. When Stevie tells David that all of his friends from New York have declined the invite to his wedding, David admits that he just wanted to prove to them that he wasn’t a joke.

1 Happy Ending (Season 6, Episode 14)

Given how beloved the show is, it makes sense that the most emotional episode is the one in which fans had to say goodbye to all these characters. Adding to the emotion, the episode featured David and Patrick were getting married as well as Johnny and Moira leaving town.

While there were plenty of happy tears throughout the episode (and some big laughs) the final scene when everyone goes their separate ways is enough to make any fan cry.
