Elaine Marie Benes reigns as a feminist hero, a sitcom legend, and the most memed fictional character from Seinfeld, as seen here.

Seinfeld’s Elaine Benes left an indelible mark on pop culture. Played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, the character was the only female protagonist among a group of overbearing men. She sang like no one was listening, and spoke rationally when others failed. Elaine rated her love interests by how “spongeworthy” they were, kicked off the conversation about restroom etiquette through the iconic “can you spare a square?” quote, and coined the word “re-gifter” to call out unsentimental people who recycled gifts.

From day one on Seinfeld, Elaine challenged the unfair rules of society and was a true representative of women of the ’80s and of the present times. Modern-day fans have turned her priceless opinions, and actions into some hilarious memes as seen below.

George vehemently defends himself when Elaine accuses him of being a bad driver in “The Parking Space.” She moves the front mirror to check her sunglasses and he’s thrown off his equilibrium. As a result, their vehicle starts to make a clanking noise.

Since Elaine doesn’t admit to her mistake, George’s ego takes a hit. He is determined to prove her wrong, claiming he has the ability to make a right turn from the left lane and a left turn from the right lane. His words are mumbo jumbo to her, so she holds tights and talks him out of endangering their lives in a thrill ride. Fans trying to beat Google maps can relate.

Uninhibited Elaine

In one of the iconic Elaine Benes episodes ever, she does a mean impersonation of Marlon Brando’s character from A Streetcar Named Desire. In season 3’s “The Pen,” she and Jerry travel to Florida where they stay with the Seinfelds at their condo. Elaine hurts her back from sleeping on a pull-out sofa bed and pops muscle relaxers the next morning. As the order of the Seinfeldverse dictates, she goes completely loopy and starts to act funny.

The still shows her at the condo dinner, uninhibited, and unaware of the embarrassment she’s causing the Seinfelds. Safe to say, there’s no better pop culture reference than this one to explain what losing inhibition looks like.

Been There, Done That

Elaine’s out-of-the-box questions, such as this one, compels viewers to think beyond a superficial level. There’s nothing wrong with self-doubt and those viewers who find themselves in Elaine’s shoes know that the woman always bounced back stronger.

There’s no denying Elaine could speak to fans’ souls. She had some of the best quotes in the show’s history and while many of those touched on serious subject matters, take say, womanhood, and sexuality, others dealt with life’s mundane problems, which audiences can understand.

Road-Tripping

Season 4’s “The Airport” opens with Elaine singing a jazz tune and being immediately shut down by her pal, Jerry. Her kicks and thumbs dance from “The Little Kicks” and her poppy jazz number have convinced fans she’s neither a great dancer nor a great singer.

That said, Elaine is a highly relatable TV character because she embraces things fearlessly. She dances like no one’s watching and sings like no one’s listening and fans love that about her.

Cosmo Had It Coming

Elaine strains her neck from getting a bike off the wall in an antique store in “The Seven.” She becomes delirious and impulsively swears to give the bike to anyone who can fix her neck. Always angling for dough, Kramer, who is present in the room, claims to be skilled in the shiatsu massage and manages to relive her temporarily. As he performs the techniques on her, he spews quotes that have only become funnier with time.

Elaine reluctantly keeps her vow, but when the pain is back, she shuts the door on her hipster doofus of a friend who’s made her injury worse than before. The moment of impact, as seen in the clip above, is unexpected, and makes for a good meme for those who didn’t enjoy 2021.

Ouch

Elaine’s neck pain gets worse than before and she’s unable to look directly at people’s faces or keep her head down. The neck is a vulnerable body part and there is nothing worse than waking up with a sore neck, as conveyed in the meme above.

Elaine’s neck injury from the episode “The Seven” is a source of misery to her fans. It also serves as a caution against receiving treatment from frauds who are looking to make a quick buck or in this case, want a free bike as an exchange for payment.

Word Of Advice

The reason why Jerry and his pals outshine most sitcom characters is because of their ability to put a spin on mundane conversations and turn them into hilarious jokes. This one from season 5’s “The Dinner Party” is a friendly reminder to people to make their new year wishes on time.

Elaine, as seen above, is understandably flustered because someone wished long after New Year’s Day had passed. The year 2021 is coming to an end, and Seinfeld fans think people need to keep wishing etiquette in mind because late wishes come across as insincere and unwanted.

Mic Drop

Elaine makes an impressive case for people, particularly those who don’t like chit-chat or small talk in “The Male Unbonding.” It’s her very first scene in the entire series and it’s notable because it gives viewers a peek into her camaraderie with Jerry. They split up before the series began but consciously chose to remain in each other’s lives as close friends.

It’s quite ironic, not to mention relatable, how Elaine says she doesn’t want to sit in Jerry’s apartment all day, and then proceeds to turn down every single one of his suggestions. Before fans know it, she’s run of excitement and he, out of ideas. Again, it makes her incredibly relatable.

The Christmas Spirit

A post shared by Seinfeld (@seinfeldtv)

This clip, taken from season 6’s “The Couch,” shows Elaine going on and on about her new love interest. Though she uses the words, “real” and “honest, to describe him at first, she is no longer sure the second Jerry asks whether they share the same views on serious topics.

There are people who genuinely feel it’s never too early to get into the Christmas spirit. That said, there are those who think there’s a right time and moment to get into the festive mood. Elaine’s look of bewilderment (and the lipstick smear) speaks volumes to people who don’t feel festive until the very end of the year.
