With a net worth of $4,4 billion, Mark Cuban is the richest shark in Shark Tank, hence his feedback tends to carry more weight than that of his fellow investors. He might not be as entertaining as Kevin O’Leary but as a person who knows a thing or two about money, Mark always makes sure to speak his mind in a manner that is brutal and sometimes hilarious.

The billionaire has always been among the first sharks to react to every single pitch. And while the bulk of his remarks are directed to entrepreneurs, he normally engages in heated (but friendly) exchanges with fellow sharks too, most notably Kevin. This has resulted in him coming up with some rather memorable lines on the reality show.

10 “Worst Presentation Ever!”

Albert and Richard Amini were brothers who also happened to be doctors. They came to the tank, asking for $50,000 in exchange for a 20% stake in Rolodoc, a social media network for doctors. Surprisingly, they made what can be considered one of the worst pitches on Shark Tank.

Being rejected by all sharks is normally an indicator of how poor a business is. Mark specifically stood up and shook the hands of the Amini Brothers before blasting them. He stated that he only accorded the courtesy of shaking hands because they were doctors. Given that the brothers had no idea how doctors would be vetted or how the social media site would be monetized, Mark’s words didn’t come out as mean. Walking up to them as sharks normally do after making a deal was unexpected, creating yet another show highlight.

9 “I’m Allergic To Scams.”

The founder of Esso Watches, Ryan Naylor stepped into the tank with much enthusiasm, seeking $35,000 in exchange for 20%. He claimed his watches consisted of negative ions that provided plenty of health benefits to customers. As he handed out samples to the sharks, Mark refused to take one.

Mark’s refusal to sample one of the watches was unusual since he was breaking what might be considered standard procedure. A concerned Robert assumed Mark was allergic to negative ions but the billionaire hilariously clarified that what he was allergic to was “scams” and this was one of them. The billionaire simply felt there was no way a watch could provide health benefits. His brutal words would lead to one of the biggest arguments on Shark Tank.

8 “I Don’t Know This Business At All, But I’m Going To Make You An Offer.”

Melni Connectors founders confidently asked for $500,000 for a 5% stake in their company, which dealt with fixing broken electrical wires. Other sharks brushed them off and termed their pitch confusing but Mark made an offer.

Normally, sharks don’t invest in anything they don’t understand. However, Mark decided to pour his money into Melni Connectors because he could relate to what the founders were doing. He backed up his decision with a tale of how investors threw money at him when he started Audionet even though they didn’t understand the business properly. They just knew he had something big in his hands.

7 “You’re Not An Entrepreneur. You’re A Want-A-Preneur.”

This is a quote that Mark has repeated more than a dozen times over the course of the reality shows. He usually shoves these words in the ways of entrepreneurs who don’t have a solid and promising business.

Honesty is one of the reasons why Mark is one of the best sharks on Shark Tank. Entrepreneurs can either be inspired by his words and put even more effort into their business or be discouraged, choosing to focus on something else entirely. That’s what the first person Mark ever told these words to did. Amanda Schlecter was the founder of Ledge Pillow but the business has been inactive ever since her appearance on Shark Tank.

6 “There Are Hackers Out There Looking At That Going, “Yeah Boy!”‘

Splikity founders Chad and Doug narrated how they founded the company after their friends hacked into their eBay accounts and made bids. They thus developed an app that could develop and key in passwords for people without them having to remember any of them.

Mark didn’t hesitate to blast the two entrepreneurs when they revealed that they didn’t have any security or technological background. As someone who made his wealth out of technology, Mark’s concerns felt genuine. Robert was also concerned. The two most tech-savvy sharks backing out was enough to convince the rest of the sharks to back out of the deal.

5 “Kevin, You Might Not Like To Do Work But Some People Do”

Raven Thomas appeared confident as she pitched her food company, The Painted Pretzel. However, Kevin argued that there was nothing propriety about the business because a lot of people could make pretzels. Mark disagreed, arguing that the difference between Thomas and other entrepreneurs was the work ethic.

As the most outspoken sharks, Mark and Kevin have never held back when it comes to throwing jabs at each other. They do it in a friendly manner but there are always enough projectiles in their sentences to awe fans. Kevin obviously loves to work and that’s why he is rich but seeing Mark describe him as lazy was fun to watch, especially since Kevin enjoys tearing into people too.

4 “Dang, That’s Not The Way To Sell.”

When John Smith, the founder of Storm Stoppers, asked for $100,000 for 10%, the sharks saw his offer as reasonable but had plenty of questions. The sharks didn’t like his business that involved protecting windows during storms and when Kevin asked him to stop pitching, Smith got angry and demanded that Kevin stop acting like a mind reader and hear him out.

Mark’s reaction to Smith’s anger was mirrored by the rest of the sharks. The investors have always controlled the proceedings firmly, so trying to force them into doing anything was never going to work. Seeing an entrepreneur fire back to a shark was entertaining nevertheless since everyone else on the show has always refrained from standing up for themselves.

3 “Kevin, He’s Saying There’s Smart Money And There’s Dumb Money, And You’re Dumb Money!”

Several products for picnic lovers have been pitched over the years and one of them was Dura-Tent, a tent meant to prevent insects from getting into food during picnics. The owner Dan Rothwell wanted $50,000 in exchange for 30% equity but wasn’t willing to take the money from Kevin despite the shark matching his offer. He simply felt that Kevin would offer nothing more than money.

Rarely do investors reject the only offers they get but Rothwell’s decision was admirable since he wanted a shark that was willing to work for the business and not just pour in money and sit back. Mark’s analysis of Rothwell’s decision served as yet another jab at Kevin, a jab that was funny enough to have both audiences and fellow sharks laughing.

2 “I’d Rather Follow The Green Than The Dream.”

This is also an often repeated quote by Mark. He enjoys saying it to entrepreneurs who are extremely passionate about a product or business that doesn’t make money aka “the green.”

It’s Mark’s way of telling entrepreneurs that what motivated them to start the business isn’t the issue. If a business isn’t making money, it matters little if the entrepreneur is doing it to honor a dead loved one or to fulfill a childhood dream. It’s more important to leave it and focus on something that’ll bring in money.

James Lavitola had a never-seen-before pitch on Shark Tank when he came in asking for $5 million to make a motorcycle movie. Mike wasn’t even willing to listen to him and kept declaring he was out as Lavitola continued to explain his idea. By the time it came to the above quote, he had declared her was out, about 6 times.

Lavitola was right about there being few motorcycle racing movies in Hollywood, so there was definitely a demand. That Mark never grew tired of telling Lavitola said more about his anti-Hollywood stance rather than the idea being a bad one. $5 million also falls within the normal low-budget movie cost.
