Every main character in SpongeBob SquarePants has their own home with a unique design that fits either their species or their style, but the most strange one might be Patrick’s: a large brown rock. So, how many rooms can Patrick’s house have? SpongeBob SquarePants was created by marine science educator and animator Stephen Hillenburg and debuted on Nickelodeon in 1999. The series has been big hit with kids and adults, so much that it’s the most successful Nicktoon to date, with over 10 seasons and counting, and becoming one of the longest-running American animated series.
SpongeBob SquarePants follows the daily lives of title character – a sea sponge that actually looks more like a kitchen sponge – and his best friends Patrick Star, Sandy Cheeks, his neighbor Squidward Tentacles, and his greedy boss Mr. Krabs, all of them living in the underwater city of Bikini Bottom. In 20 years of adventures, SpongeBob SquarePants has allowed viewers to truly get to know the main characters, bringing their families from time to time and taking the audience inside their houses quite often.
SpongeBob is Squidward and Patrick’s neighbor (and much to Squidward’s dismay, his house is between the two best friends’), but Patrick’s house stands out for its simple yet intriguing design: a rock that opens and closes like a door. As strange as it might seem, Patrick’s house does have a couple of rooms, but they change quite often.
Every Room In Patrick Star’s House
The rooms in Patrick’s house, just like its origins, have changed throughout the series. In early episodes, underneath the rock there was a hole, where he had a TV, a green armchair, and a lamp. As the series progressed, so did Patrick’s interior design skills, as his furniture is now made of sand. The house increases its size as needed, and it sometimes has two rooms (including a kitchen), and even a bathroom, as seen in the episode “The Donut of Shame”. Some episodes have shown it to have a staircase, and he builds furniture out of sand as he needs them, such as a refrigerator full of sand items.
Patrick’s bedroom has also changed many times. He’s sometimes shown sleeping on the rock, so when it opens, he falls; other times he uses the rock as blanket (as seen when SpongeBob temporarily moved in with him), and in some occasions he has been seen sleeping on a bed made of sand. The origins of the house/rock have also changed a lot: a comic book revealed the house was once Patrick’s small pet rock which grew up to be a large rock, but in the series, he has said he built it himself. However, in the episode “The Card”, Patrick revealed he has a landlord who constantly changes the lock. Very much like his mind, Patrick’s house is an enigma, and will surely continue to change in future seasons.
