Star Wars Cal Kestis Should Show Up In Other Games

Star Wars games have had a rough go under EA, from the multiple canceled projects to the debacle of Star Wars Battlefront 2’s launch. Recent years have seen things improve, however, especially with the release of Jedi Fallen Order. The first single-player Star Wars game in years, Fallen Order introduced a brand new protagonist, a Padawan named Cal Kestis who barely managed to survive Order 66.

Cal goes through quite the journey, and Fallen Order has some interesting tidbits on the history of the Jedi. While it’s pretty much guaranteed that there will be a Fallen Order 2, it’d be a shame to not use such an interesting character in other parts of the Star Wars universe.

Star Wars games are about to get a new lease on life as other developers take a stab at the series, like Ubisoft. As the franchise moves into its next-generation, Cal Kestis could be one of the characters that unite all the experiences.

Cal Kestis Could Connect a Star Wars Game Universe

Cal Kestis is one of only six Jedi still alive by the end of the original trilogy, and presumably the events of The Mandalorian. With one of the other surviving Jedi being Cere Junda, Cal’s mentor, it gives him an important place in the current state of the universe. Cal could work as the connective tissue between the next set of Star Wars games, and work to re-establish the Jedi order. The Mandalorian has gone to great lengths to connect disparate parts of the Star Wars universe, like introducing Dark Troopers and the Krayt Dragon. With Disney establishing Lucasfilm Games, it’s clear the company is going to put more weight behind video games in the coming years.

The end of Fallen Order doesn’t really make it clear where Cal and his crew are going next, but it’s easy to see them traveling the galaxy, trying to fight the Empire and do good where they can. That creates the perfect setups for Cal and company to pop up in other stories, like the next Battlefront or Ubisoft’s open-world game. Luke Skywalker has served as the character uniting the series so far, even appearing in Star Wars Battlefront 2’s campaign in a big way. With Luke’s story over, however, new characters will have to fill that role. There are a lot of years in between Fallen Order and the sequel film trilogy, and it’d be fascinating to see Cal have a larger effect on the universe, maybe even training a few Padawans separate from Luke’s new Jedi Temple. While it’s easy enough to have Cal appear in other Star Wars games, the character could appear in plenty of other media as well. This is especially true considering the character’s likeness is directly based on the actor that portrays him, Cameron Monaghan. Fallen Order saw characters like Saw Gerrera and Darth Vader cross paths with Cal Kestis, and now it’s his turn to really leave a mark on Star Wars.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. A PS5 and Xbox Series X patch was recently released that upgrades the game to 60fps, among other things.
