Succession Each Main Characters Worst Trait

Every family company has to consider its path of succession once the CEO inevitably retires, steps down, or leaves under other circumstances. That’s what this Emmy-winning show is all about. Except in the case of Succession, it’s a billion-dollar multi-national media empire owned by one very wealthy family.

The Roys didn’t get to where they are by playing nice, and when it comes to one another, the gloves remain on, too. Thus, every member of the Roy family, along with those who surround them, have some terrible traits. But some are worse than others.

“Cousin Greg” Gregory Hirsch: Pushover

Succession Each Main Characters Worst Trait

Cousin Greg isn’t like the rest since he did not grow up with wealth and extravagance. His grandfather, Logan Roy’s brother, does not agree at all with his brother’s lifestyle. Instead, he leaves a very simple life, despite his wealth, focusing on investing his shares in the company in Greenpeace.

Thus, when Greg was sent by his mother to try and get a job at Waystar Royco, using his familial connection, it comes as no surprise that he was not treated with much respect. While Greg doesn’t have a leg to stand on, he also lets everyone push him around to embarrassing levels. Greg doesn’t yet have the courage to stand up for himself.

Logan Roy: Ruthless And Cruel

Succession Each Main Characters Worst Trait

It’s tough to pick Logan’s worst trait since he’s villainous down to his core, and easily the most terrifying character on Succession. But worst of all is his cruel and ruthless nature. From treating his children as pawns to never doing anything without an ulterior and self-serving motive, Logan doesn’t care who is thrown under the bus for the sake of his well-being.

He was willing to send his own son to jail, manipulated his daughter, and worst of all, let terrible things happen on his cruise ships without ever batting an eye or trying to make things better. Instead, he focused on doing whatever necessary to cover it up.

Roman Roy: Crude And Immature

Succession Each Main Characters Worst Trait

Roman Roy is one of the more likable characters on Succession, but as he delves deeper and deeper into his father’s influence and becomes obsessed with his need for approval, Roman’s crude and immature side comes out. Roman rarely speaks a sentence without using a curse word and is often offensive, rude, and inappropriate in what he says.

While he can scale it back when needed for business, Roman is the consummate spoiled rich kid. Roman believes he can talk to anyone, any way he likes without consequences or accountability for his actions, much like a child.

Tom Wambsgans: Social Climber And Suck-Up

Succession Each Main Characters Worst Trait

Tom is only a member of the Roy family by marriage, but he has his own faults. Most notably, he is an opportunist who is obsessed with power and insecure about being overshadowed by his wife Shiv.

He is so focused on climbing the social and corporate ladder that Tom stayed with Shiv even though she declared she wanted an open marriage on the day of their wedding, the worst thing Shiv ever did on Succession. Tom will do whatever necessary to be on top, ironically even if it means sacrificing his own self-respect. He was even willing to go to jail for Logan, to suck-up to his father-in-law and hope it would get him somewhere in the end.

Connor Roy: Desperate for attention

Succession Each Main Characters Worst Trait

Connor grew up with a lot on his plate, often taking on the fatherly duties for his younger siblings since their real father Logan wasn’t around a lot. He does not have much faith in himself, so much so that he begged an escort to be in a relationship with him, promising her money and whatever she wanted if she would just stick around, keep him company, and pretend to be his actual girlfriend.

It all stems from loneliness but Connor’s intense need to be accepted and loved has reached a level of desperation with his grandiose ideas of running for president. In some ways, Connor is like a child desperate for attention and willing to do the most outlandish things to get it.

Kendall Roy: Insecurity And Bravado

Succession Each Main Characters Worst Trait

Kendall has a very common combination of insecurity and bravado. He treats people poorly, uses his wealth as a free pass to get what he wants, and acts with machismo, even going so far as to do things just so he could win or prove a point and not because it makes good business sense.

His insecurity has also made him act poorly towards his ex-wife Rava and his children and caused him to go down some dark roads throughout the seasons as a way of acting out against his father.

Marcia Roy: Opportunistic

Succession Each Main Characters Worst Trait

Marcia remains tough to read, and while it appears she really does love Logan and was not in it for the money, she also knows what game is being played. This is best evidenced in her terms and requirements if Logan’s lawyers wanted her to stay married to him after he clearly cheated on her.

Marcia is smarter than people realize, but she is also opportunistic. She is happy to lie in wait until it’s time for her to cash in. And she isn’t necessarily worried about what the Roy kids, or anyone else for that matter, think about it.

Shiv Roy: Self-Absorbed

Succession Each Main Characters Worst Trait

Shiv is arguably the smartest of the Roy children on Succession and certainly the most put-together and clear-minded. However, she is also very self-absorbed. It didn’t occur to her that her flippant attitude toward Tom would hurt him, for example.

She is determined and opinionated, which are both great qualities. However, she sometimes crosses a line to ensure she gets what she wants, such as when she released a statement about her brother Kendall, honing in on the topic of his mental health in an effort to discredit him.

Gerri Kellman: Loyal To A Fault

Succession Each Main Characters Worst Trait

Gerri is a strong, smart, and skilled woman who sometimes, it seems, doesn’t understand her own worth. At other times, however, it seems she completely understands her worth and what she’s capable of, making Gerri one of the low-key villains on Succession. It’s Gerri that has gotten Logan out of many jams over the years.

While having a sense of loyalty is a good thing, given that Gerri has worked with the Roys for decades and seen the children grow up, she is also loyal to a fault. There have been many times when Gerri should have left Logan and moved on to greener pastures, respecting herself more than her so-called friendship with him.

Willa Ferreyra: Uses Connor

It is possible that Willa has grown to truly like Connor. But initially, she was just an escort he begged to stay with him. She at first rejected his advances, but when he promised to fund her dream of becoming a playwright, and effectively buy her whatever she wanted, she gave in.

Even if Connor is fully aware that he’s paying to have Willa on his arm 24/7, she is taking advantage of his loneliness and desperation by accepting the offer.
