It’s Supernatural’s final season, and all our favorite characters are crawling out of the woodwork. So far, Rowena and Arthur have reappeared, Kevin Tran has come back as a ghost, Benny popped up in a bad dream, and even Sam’s biggest fan has had an episode. However, there’s one character that hasn’t yet returned that everyone is hoping may come back before the very end: Crowley. The crossroads demon turned King of Hell, Crowley started out as a villain… and even though he’s still a demon, he ended up almost a hero.

Crowley was last seen when he sacrificed himself to try and stop Lucifer’s return (although clearly, that didn’t stick), and although his death seemed final, there’s no telling what might happen in the final season. Crowley was one of the best parts of the show, with his sass and unpredictability, and his love/hate relationship with the Winchesters. Whether he returns or not, here are some of our favorite quotes that show just why he should.

10 Now If You’ll Excuse Me, I Have A Little Hell To Raise

Crowley and the Winchesters have always had a complicated relationship, but for most of it, Sam and Dean did truly believe that they would do away with Crowley when they had the chance… until they actually found his bones. The boys could have burned them, but instead traded them to Crowley for Bobby’s soul. And on his way out, Crowley delivered this iconic line, which is a perfect way to sum up his character. No matter how friendly he might be at times, he’s always planning to raise a little Hell.

9 It’s On You, You Big, Beautiful Lumbering Piles Of Flannel

More references to that love/hate relationship, and the fact that Crowley knows that when the apocalypse hits, the safest place to be is with the Winchesters. However, there’s no way he would admit that without throwing a little insult in for good measure – especially about the Winchester fashion sense (or lack thereof). Crowley is a man who appreciates a tailored suit, and Sam and Dean’s penchant for flannel and jeans is a sticking point for their demonic friend. But minor insults aside, let’s not forget that Crowley knows that he can trust the Winchesters, and he does appreciate them for that.

8 I Was Worth Five Pigs, At Least

After quite a while of not knowing where, exactly, Crowley came from, it was revealed that he was actually Rowena’s son. The two hardly have a loving relationship, though, and some of Crowley’s best lines are based on his particular ways of dealing with his mother.

This quote is when he’s talking about how terrible a mother Rowena was, and that she attempted to trade him for three pigs… when he was worth at least five! Although he may have a dark sense of humor about his human childhood, it’s nice to see that Crowley has a sense of humor about it, at least.

7 They Ate My Tailor!

Crowley’s trademark look is a perfectly fitted suit – and it’s clearly a priority. In fact, Crowley has some interesting priorities for a demon in general… as shown by the fact that he was willing to team up with the Winchesters and bring down the wrath of all the other demons, but they took it just a step too far when they ate his tailor! This is also the kind of line that reminds us of why we miss him, because it’s a perfect Supernatural line to take out of context… and sums up the brilliant hilarity of the show.

6 Listen To The Moose, Squirrel

This line may not be a zinger on its own, but let’s be honest. One of the things that we all miss most about Crowley is his brilliant nicknames for Sam and Dean. He’s thrown out a few over the years, but the biggest and best has to be his habit of referring to the Winchester boys as Moose and Squirrel. It’s a reference to Rocky and Bullwinkle, but it’s also a nod to their different sizes (and quite how huge Sam in). The final season just shouldn’t pass without another moment of hearing Crowley dripping sass as he tells Dean to go ‘look for your Moose’, or asks Sam ‘where’s Squirrel?’.

5 You Do Want To Conspire, Don’t You?

Of course Crowley wants to conspire… and he’s always ready to conspire with the Winchesters, with the demons, with literally anyone that can help him get to where he wants to be… which makes this one of his most iconic lines. He’s not just popping up around the Winchesters to use them as handy apocalypse shields, he’s ready and willing to start coming up with some devious plans!

In fact, his utterly bewildered (and not a little sarcastic) responses when the people around him aren’t into creating plots are pure brilliance. And we want to see how he would conspire against God just one last time.

4 I Just Want To Be Loved

While most of the reasons we miss Crowley are his sass, his sarcasm, his brilliant turn of phrase… we really love him because he’s the kind of guy that actually, deep down, just wants to be loved. It’s seen in his relationship with Sam and Dean, and the moments where it’s clear that he doesn’t actually need them, but he quite likes them. It’s seen in how he sacrificed himself. And it’s seen when he gets ‘drunk’ on demon blood and tells Sam that he actually just wants to be loved. Perhaps we miss Crowley because he’s just so relatable… for a demon.

3 No One In The History Of Torture…

Speaking of that brilliant wit and ability to turn a phrase… this quote is brilliant because it’s one of those times where even Crowley loses his ability to really cut a stunningly crafted insult. In full, he says “No one in the history of torture’s been tortured with torture like the torture you’ll be tortured with”… which is a gloriously awkward way to threaten someone, but potentially more frightening as a result. Much as everyone loves Crowley’s wit, sometimes seeing him lose it is even better.

2 Never Underestimate The King Of Hell, Darling

If there is one thing that everyone loves about Crowley, it’s that he will do absolutely anything to survive – and he’s always got a few tricks up his sleeve. In fact, this is one of those quotes that makes us think that he’s going to show up at some point this season, because believing that he is actually dead just seems like it would be underestimating him. And of course, hearing Crowley call someone ‘Darling’ is a wonderful moment for every Hell-King fan, because he drawls the word in a way that somehow manages to make an affectionate term sound like a deadly insult.

1 Hello, Boys

And of course, where would any Crowley fan be without this iconic line? This is the line that everyone wants to hear Crowley drop one last time before Supernatural ends. However he shows up, everyone wants to hear him from off-screen with ‘Hello, boys’, before he reappears in the Supernatural universe. It may not be wildly witty, funny, or even unusual, but there is simply something about how Mark Sheppard delivers this line that will make any fan cheer… so here’s hoping we get it once more before the show is done.
