Survivor 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Winners Returning For Winners At War

Fans have wondered for years how some of their favorite Survivor winners would fair against one another. When Survivor returns for season 4o, the show will answer this question with the highly anticipated all winners season, Survivor: Winners at War. Along with the edge of extinction twist, this season will feature several fan favorites, including Boston Rob, Sandra, Parvarti, Yul, and Ethan.

A few big names are missing from the list, however, including first-ever winner Richard and fan favorites Tom and Todd. While these individuals could have declined to appear, their omissions are glaring when considering some of the names included in the cast. Below is a breakdown of the 5 best and 5 worst players returning. Please note, this is not a list of who is likely to win but rather an examination of their previous gameplay and how deserving it is to be included in an all-winners season.

10 Worst: Ben Driebergen (Survivor: Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers)

Survivor 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Winners Returning For Winners At War

Ben may be one of the weaker winners in recent memory. Ben’s game relied solely on finding idols to save himself. While flashy, this type of gameplay is indicative of a weak social game. Christy, who played a better all-around game, was villainized for her strong strategic gameplay.

Ben, constantly on the outside, had to rely on advantages to not be voted out. Playing advantages correctly is important in modern Survivor, but Ben’s overall game is weaker than other winners who could have been brought back.

9 Best: Jeremy Collins (Survivor: Cambodia)

Survivor 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Winners Returning For Winners At War

Jeremy is one of the most popular players of the last ten years. He is extremely sociable, employs a strong strategy, and can win competitions. Jeremy is a threat to win whenever he steps on the island, which is why he was voted out so early on Survivor: San Juan Del Sur.

When he returned for Survivor: Cambodia, Jeremy was refocused on getting to the end. Jeremy utilized the meat shield strategy, purposely keeping Joe and Stephen around as they were perceived as bigger threats. By the time both of them were voted out, Jeremy was firmly in control of the game. He is one of only five players to receive all the jury votes at the final tribal council.

8 Worst: Adam Klien (Survivor: Millennials vs Gen X)

Survivor 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Winners Returning For Winners At War

Survivor: Millennials vs Gen X produced some memorable castaways, including Adam, Zeke, David. Adam was able to navigate relationships and work with individuals across the board. He deserved to win his season, but many attribute his win to the story with his mother and not his gameplay.

Despite playing well socially, Adam didn’t move the needle strategically compared to other players on his season. His biggest moves were voting out Michaela right before the merge and constantly targeting David, though he was unsuccessful in getting him voted out until the final four. Considering the winners left off this season, Adam’s overall game doesn’t measure up, especially compared to Todd Herzog who played a similar game to Adam, only more successfully.

7 Best: Denise Stapley (Survivor: Philippines)

Survivor 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Winners Returning For Winners At War

Denise has the unique distinction of being the only player in Survivor history to attend every tribal council on their season. Her biggest strength is her ability to remain calm while fighting from the bottom. Denise brings a strong social and strategic game while competing well in challenges.

After forming a final four with Skupin, Lisa, and Malcolm, Denise was able to navigate her way towards the end of the game. She formed strong relationships with her fellow tribemates and was always respectful as people were voted out. All of this lead to a win after she was able to vote out front runner Malcolm at the final four.

6 Worst: Nick Wilson (Survivor: David vs. Goliath)

Survivor 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Winners Returning For Winners At War

Nick is one of those players that comes out of the gates strong, stumbles throughout the latter half of the game, and just happens to take the right individuals to the end. His win of Survivor: David vs. Goliath was deserving, but he didn’t play a strong game overall.

Nick was responsible for voting out John and formed tight social bonds, but his resume lacks any other big moves. After the merge, he was routinely left out of the majority and found himself on the wrong side of the vote far too often. Had it not been for his alliance with Mike, he probably wouldn’t have made it to the end. His game just doesn’t feel on the same level as other winners on this season.

5 Best: Parvati Shallow (Survivor: Micronesia)

Survivor 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Winners Returning For Winners At War

Parvarti is one of those rare castaways who is good in all three facets of the game: socially, strategically, and physically. Despite being labeled a threat at the start of all three of her seasons, she has managed to make it to the end twice, including Survivor: Micronesia where she was crowned the winner.

During Micronesia, she formed a tight bond with Cirie and Amanda that defined the season. Together, they are responsible for all the major blindsides of the season, including Ozzy, Jason, and Eric. At the final three, Parvarti chose to vote out Cirie knowing how strong she was throughout the game. Parvarti later returned for Survivor: Heroes vs Villains, placing second.

4 Worst: Michelle Fitzgerald (Survivor: Koah Rong)

Survivor 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Winners Returning For Winners At War

Michelle is one of the most polarizing winners in Survivor history. Many feel she should have lost to Aubrey who played a stronger strategic game; however, Michelle’s social game was extremely strong and she picked the correct people to go to the end. With that said, Michelle didn’t make any big moves throughout the season, other than never being the biggest threat in the tribe.

Not as many women have won Survivor so her inclusion on this season is probably more out of necessity for gender balance than based on gameplay. Nevertheless, it will be exciting to watch Michelle try and prove her worth as a Survivor winner.

3 Best: Kim Spradlin (Survivor: One World)

Survivor 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Winners Returning For Winners At War

Kim played quite possibly the most dominant game in the show’s history during Survivor: One World. Kim was able to garner the trusty of her tribemates through her quiet nature, forging a strong all-female alliance that lasted until the end of the game. Once in the majority, Kim took control of the game.

Kim controlled every vote after the merge, decimating the original Manano tribe and then voting out her biggest threats. Kim, who also won a few immunity challenges, was named the Sole Survivor for her effective, under the radar strategy.

2 Worst: Amber Mariano (Survivor: All-Stars)

Survivor 5 Best (& 5 Worst) Winners Returning For Winners At War

As the winner of the first-ever all-star season, Amber is deserving of a spot on this season. Still, her gameplay from Survivor: All-Stars isn’t up to snuff with the rest of the cast. She made a strong ally in Boston Rob, but it was Rob who dictated the pace of the game. He controlled who was voted out and took the heat for each betrayal. If not for a bitter jury, Rob probably would have won Survivor: All-Stars.

Now married to Rob, it will be interesting to see how she perceived during her time on Winners at War. Amber does play a really good social game though. If allowed to get to the merge, she could very easily make it to the end again.

1 Best: Rob Mariano (Survivor: Redemption Island)

Returning for Survivor: Redemption Island, Rob took control of the game early and never looked back. Before the merge, he preached hard work and tribal unity. This set up for original Ometepe to stay loyal to one another throughout the game.

After the merge, Rob made sure his tribemates stayed separated from the Zapateras. His alliance slept in a nicer shelter and implemented the rule of two, where his alliance had to always go places in pairs to prevent the minority alliance from trying to speak to anyone individually. Rob was the clear ring leader yet everyone was convinced they were going to the end with him. Rob played a near-perfect game, controlling tribe dynamics and almost every vote.
