Penny Hofstadter is one of the shining stars on The Big Bang Theory. She acts as one of the “normal” characters that’s relatable to the audience in a sea of geniuses. From her husband to her best friends, Penny is often confused when in conversation with Sheldon, Leonard, Raj, and Howard but she rolls with the punches anyway because she loves them.

Even though Penny has a love for her friends, she’s not always as sweet as she thinks she is. She has moments of jealousy and cynicism that overshadow the small gestures she does for the group. This kind of selfish behavior flows into her relationship with her husband, which causes a bigger issue than originally intended.

10 Annoying: She Told People At Work That Bernadette Was Pregnant

When Bernadette became pregnant a second time around, she was instantly worried about her career. She just got back to work after her first pregnancy and now she’d have to miss even more work. As a woman who respects her career, Bernadette felt torn. She decided to wait a few months before telling those at work but her plan backfired when her co-workers found out anyway. It turns out, Penny was talking about it at work and people overheard. To make matters worse, Penny lied about telling anyone in the first place.

9 Sweetest: Her Bachelorette Party For Amy

Everyone hoped Amy and Sheldon would one day take their relationship to the next level but no one expected the twists and turns their relationship was bound to take.

When the two finally became engaged, Amy was excited for the bachelorette party that was being thrown by Penny and Bernadette. The women planned an entire evening with Amy’s favorite things: quilting, tea, and classical music. A lot of detail and care went into this night. And even though Amy wanted strippers involved, Penny went above and beyond for her girl Amy.

8 Annoying: She Made Sheldon Pay For Her Speeding Ticket

In the episode “The Adhesive Duck Deficiency,” Penny falls in the shower and needs Sheldon’s help. Sheldon put aside his fear of driving and took Penny’s car to the hospital. Months later, Sheldon got a speeding ticket in the mail for going through a red light. Sheldon wanted to fight the ticket because it wasn’t his car, so it shouldn’t be his ticket. However, Penny admitted that since she didn’t have money for the ticket, she told the police the ticket should go to the driver. Even though it was Penny’s car and she forced Sheldon to take her, she forced Sheldon to pay for it. For shame, Penny. For shame.

7 Sweetest: She Takes Sheldon To Disney Land

After Penny and Leonard break up, Sheldon is torn over which side to pick. Penny assured him that they could remain friends and invited him to Disneyland with her and her friends. Sheldon was delighted and the two spent the day at Disney.

Leonard was weird about it at first but eventually came around to the idea of remaining friendly with Penny for the sake of Sheldon. If it weren’t for Penny’s kind gesture and maturity on the situation, who’s to say If the group would have been as solid as it was by season 12?

6 Annoying: She Takes Advantage Of Leonard

Penny has taken advantage of Leonard in more ways than one. In the beginning, she took advantage of his feelings for her and had him get her TV from her ex-boyfriend. She also had him pay for her (even when they weren’t dating). She even pretended to be dating him for her father’s sake when he was in town. Penny knows that she can treat Leonard in any kind of way she wants and that he’ll always be around. Sadly, this behavior continued when they were in a committed relationship as well. A great example of this is when Zack asks Leonard for his sperm and Penny tries to control the situation because it wasn’t what she wanted.

5 Sweetest: She’s Protective Of Raj

The relationship between Raj and Penny doesn’t get enough credit. Penny has always had a soft spot for Raj and treats him in a way that she should have treated Leonard. She set Raj up with Emily from the gym because she thought they would be a good match (but coincidentally broke them up when she stood up for him when she took advantage of him). She also scoped out Anu when she heard Raj and her were serious.

The two become closer when Raj moved in with Penny and Leonard in the later seasons. Leonard actually became jealous of how close the two became. It was proof that Penny was capable of caring for someone other than herself.

4 Annoying: She Shames The Guys For Their Interests

When the gang buys a life-sized time machine online they become obsessed with taking turns with it. Their obsession with the time machine made Penny late for work one day, so she took her anger out on them. She judged them for collecting comics and buying toys and told them to grow up. Her hurtful words deeply affected Leonard. He felt pathetic after her attack and was about to sell all of his collectibles if it weren’t for Sheldon.

3 Sweetest: She Sat With Sheldon On His Birthday When He Had Anxiety

In “The Celebration Experimentation,” it’s Sheldon’s birthday and everyone is preparing for his party. However, seeing all of his loved ones was overwhelming for Sheldon and he ran to the bathroom in a panic. Leonard and Amy bickered about who would go save him but the obvious choice was Penny. Penny let Sheldon know that he didn’t need to do anything he wasn’t comfortable with. She would sit in that bathroom as long as he wanted to because he was one of her closest friends. The sweet moment was monumental for their friendship and gave Sheldon enough courage to go out into the party.

2 Annoying: Leonard “Wore Her Down”

It’s a long-running gag that Penny was worn down from fending off Leonard’s advances and eventually married him because it was the right thing to do. And as comical as those jokes can be, it can also be incredibly upsetting in the grand scheme of things. Being with Leonard because she can’t find anyone else isn’t the right way to enter a relationship. Did she forget that when they broke up she compared everyone to Leonard and was a mess when he started dating Priya? Leonard made Penny a more responsible and worldly person. Giving in to Leonard just because he’s around is annoying and hurtful.

1 Sweetest: She Got Sheldon’s World Of Warcraft Gear Back

In the episode “The Zarnecki Incursion,” Sheldon’s World of Warcraft account gets hacked. He was so devastated by the hacking that he called the police and said he was robbed! The boys eventually got to the bottom of it and found out where the hacker lived. The problem was that they were nervous confronting the guy. Penny eventually came to the rescue and picked them up from the hacker’s house, but after hearing how upset Sheldon was, she turned around and threatened the hacker into giving Sheldon’s things back. This was one of the sweetest moments in the series.
