The Boys Season 3 Promo Supports Black Noirs Homelander Clone Theory

The latest VNN “Seven on 7” segment might prove The Boys is replacing Black Noir with a Homelander clone in season 3. In the original comic books by Garth Ennis, Vought’s Black Noir is ultimately revealed as a Homelander clone even more sinister than The Boys’ patriotic pinhead himself. Many expected Amazon’s live-action adaptation would follow suit, but The Boys debunked the theory by showing a Black man was under Black Noir’s costume. The Seven’s chattiest supe ended season 2 in a nut-based predicament, left comatose after Queen Maeve exploited his nut allergy during a battle. Fans have suggested that Vought could now secretly replace Black Noir with a Homelander clone to line up with the comics.

To promote The Boys season 3, a series of wonderfully meta news segments have been uploaded to YouTube. Presented by Vought News Network’s Cameron Coleman, “Seven on 7” gives an ever-so-slightly biased take on updates from The Boys’ fictional universe. Coleman’s latest propaganda piece contains a commercial for a brand new streaming service called “Vought+.” A hilarious parody of Disney+, Netflix, Paramount+ and…er… Amazon Prime Video, the ad features every single member of the Seven – even The Deep!

Curiously, the clip also features Black Noir holding a series of signs emblazoned with trite media slogans like “stay up to date with the latest in fashion gossip.” Several details prove the ad was filmed after the events of The Boys season 2 – the montage contains footage of Homelander outing Maeve, and The Deep’s marriage – both recent in-universe happenings. A-Train also gets some airtime, despite only just rejoining the Seven. It’s safe to assume The Boys wouldn’t announce Black Noir’s recovery in such low-key fashion. Alternatively, an ordinary actor could be wearing Black Noir’s suit just for the Vought+ promo, allowing the Seven to save face and pretend their silent sentry wasn’t taken out by a candy bar.

A more exciting explanation is that Vought has already replaced Black Noir with Homelander’s clone. Since the all-American supe was engineered in a lab, Vought undoubtedly possess copies of his DNA, and could feasibly manufacture a clone. Stan Edgar might even have a ready-made one stashed for emergencies. It’d be almost too easy for Vought to quietly ditch the original Black Noir in his vegetative state and slot a Homelander clone into the empty costume. Black Noir never shows his face, so not even his closest colleagues would know the difference, and with a little training, a Homelander clone could replicate Black Noir’s powers easily enough. The public would be none the wiser, and the other Seven members would assume Noir had made a full recovery. And, of course, it’s only fitting that Black Noir II’s first day on the job would be holding signs to promote a streaming service.

Even if the Black Noir in VNN’s Vought+ commercial is just a regular actor standing in while the real deal remains in a coma, the ad proves how Vought is at least considering the idea of quietly replacing Noir. From hiring a jobbing actor to wear the suit, it’s only a short leap to using a Homelander clone that can fulfill Black Noir’s more extraordinary duties in The Boys season 3. This twist would make for an interesting comic change, where the audience know something’s up with Noir, but the other characters have no idea there’s a second Homelander in their midst.
