The Eternals introduced an entirely new batch of previously unknown heroes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While these characters have existed in Marvel Comics for many years, they were mostly obscure characters for movie fans but developed throughout the movie to become the future of the cosmic MCU.

When the movie ended, there were post-credit scenes that proved more obscure Marvel characters were coming, including Eros, also known as Starfox, and his associate Pip the Troll. While all eyes were on Starfox, Pip has a rich history in Marvel Comics and has been involved in some major events in the world of comics.

Who Is Pip The Troll?

Pip the Troll is an interesting character because he was not always a troll. He was actually a nobleman who was in line for the throne of his home planet of Laxidazia. However, he was also arrogant and mocked those under him.

This came back to haunt him when he ended up partying with a group of Laxidazian trolls. He ended up on a long drinking binge with them and that was his downfall. He woke up the next morning and realized that the liquor they offered him transformed him into a troll. As a result, his kingdom exiled him.

MCU fans got a chance to watch a form of the Infinity Gauntlet Saga play out in The Avengers movies. However, that was a truncated version and changed out a lot of the characters. In the comics, the two main heroes involved were Silver Surfer and Adam Warlock.

Along with Adam was Pip the Troll. Magus, who gained the Infinity Gauntlet after Thanos, ordered that all trolls die. Pip was captured and he ended up meeting Adam Warlock, and together they staged a rebellion and battled Magus.

After Living Tribunal decreed that the Infinity Gauntlet could no longer be used with the Infinity Gems, Adam Warlock chose to send each gem out with one person and created the Infinity Watch to ensure they never were combined again.

Adam Warlock took the Soul Gem and he gave the Space Gem to Pip the Troll. This is how Pip gained his first superpowers, as well. The other members were Gamora with the Time Gem, Drax with the Power Gem, Moondragon with the Mind Gem, and shockingly, Thanos with the Reality Gem.

The shocking thing about the entire Infinity Watch storyline was that Adam Warlock entrusted Thanos with one of the gems. Since Adam and Pip the Troll were close, this also put Pip on the same side as Thanos for some adventures.

Villains known as the Thanosi showed up, which were modified clones of Thanos. He knew he needed help and had Pip the Troll find Adam Warlock to help him. Later, Pip even teamed up with Thanos and Galactus to beat a cosmic being known as Hunger.

Pip the Troll had no superpowers before he became a troll and had none after he was turned into a troll. However, over time, he went on adventures, met superheroes, and ended up transformed into a superpowered being. This was thanks to both Adam Warlock’s magic and possessing the Space Gem at one point.

Pip the Troll has the power of transportation. He gained this from the Space Gem and he can teleport himself and another person anywhere. He also has superhuman strength and can lift about 10 tons.

Pip Owed A Debt To Hela

Pip the Troll ended up owing a debt to the goddess Hela. To MCU fans, Hela is Thor’s sister from Thor: Ragnarok, but this is not who Hela is in the comics. Instead, Hela is the goddess of the underworld, a version of the Devil herself.

Hela took Pip and held him, but he found a way to escape thanks to a magical pendant that let him take the form of a human. Sadly, this led him to head to Earth and infiltrate a popular superhero team.

Pip the Troll eventually ended up on Earth. Sadly, he was sent there as a spy by Agamemnon, Hela’s brother. Agamemnon helped Pip escape from the Inferno Club because he wanted to send him in as a spy on the mutant PI team, X-Factor Investigations.

This was when Jamie Madrox was running the team and former New Mutant Wolfsbane was part of the group. Wolfsbane was also pregnant with Hrimhari’s child, which made him the grandson of Fenris, the wolf.

Thor and X-Factor fought to save Pip the Troll from Hela after she tricked X-Factor into giving him up to her. As a way to repay X-Factor for their help, he remained with them as a secretary until after Wolfsbane left the group.

Pip then realized he had developed a vice as a troll that became worse when he was on Earth with X-Factor. He smoked a lot. Pip wanted to quit smoking, so he not only left Earth, but he left any galaxy where cigarettes existed to avoid the temptation completely.

While Pip the Troll was exploring the universe, avoiding galaxies where his vices existed, he met a group of space pirates known as The Ravagers. This was the same group that fans met in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, led by Yondu.

Much like in the movies, The Ravagers became a group of mercenaries. Along with Pip and Yondu, the group also had a mishmash of colorful characters who eventually found a home on Ego the Living Planet.

Pip The Troll Teamed With The Asgardians Of The Galaxy

The most recent appearance of Pip the Troll came when he crossed paths with the Asgardians of the Galaxy. This group was led by Kid Loki and Thor’s older sister Angela. It also included some familiar faces, such as Valkyrie, Thunderstrike, Throg, and Skurge the Executioner.

The group was searching for Angela’s loved one, Sera, and encountered the Ravagers. The two teams, including Pip the Troll, had to find a way to save Ego’s moon Alter Ego from a virus on his planet, and after this ended, the Ravagers continued to reside on Ego until more recently, Ego gave birth to a black hole that brought Dormammu to this world.
