The MCUs Nova Could Be The Perfect Iron Man Replacement

With Iron Man gone, the MCU’s Nova movie could be the perfect replacement for Tony Stark in Richard Rider. With reports that Marvel has begun development on a Nova movie, it’s possible that Richard Rider could be set up to become the Iron Man of the cosmos seeing as how they have some shared features in the pages of Marvel Comics (and not just their respectively iconic suits/helmets).

In Avengers: Endgame, Iron Man gave his life in the final battle against Thanos and his army, integrating the Infinity Stones into his suit which allowed him to erase The Mad Titan and his forces out of existence. As a result, a void still exists where Iron Man once stood in the MCU, and thus far no hero has really stepped up to fill the vacuum (if it’s even possible). However, if any upcoming hero debuting soon in the MCU has a chance, it would be Marvel’s Richard Rider, the Nova Centurion from Earth and host of the Nova Force itself.

Chosen at random by a critically wounded Nova Corps officer after a devastating attack that wiped out the planet Xandar and the entirety of the Corps, Richard Rider became a hero of Earth. Known as the Human Rocket, Rider gained the powers of flight, super-strength, and energy manipulation such as his ability to unleash powerful concussive blasts. Charismatic and headstrong, Rider eventually took to the stars once the Nova Corps was rebuilt to become a proper officer. However, Rider became the Last Nova once more when Xandar was attacked once more. This time, Nova became Nova Prime, wielding the entirety of the Nova Force, the power source meant for every officer in the Corps while also hosting the Worldmind, the sentient AI consciousness containing the collective knowledge of Xandar who helped guide Richard during battle, resembling Tony Stark’s JARVIS (albeit much more advanced). As such, many of the elements found within Rider can also be found in Tony Stark, making the Last Nova an ideal replacement for the former Armored Avenger.

While Rider will no doubt serve as a hero of the cosmos as Nova Prime thanks to Thanos’ destruction of Xandar, he could easily serve as an Iron Man replacement in more ways than one, including his position as a frequent member of the Guardians of the Galaxy (akin to Iron Man’s status as a founding Avenger). Provided Marvel Studios picks an actor with the right personality to play Richard Rider when casting Nova for the MCU, Nova Prime could eventually become just as much of a household name in the MCU and Tony Stark himself.

Again, while it would be hard to totally replace Iron Man in the MCU, Nova Prime checks many of the same boxes. Both heroes wield unique power sources while wearing helmeted suits of armor which allows them to fly while utilizing impressive defensive capabilities. They also have AI personalities to offer support while also carrying similar personalities as heroes who are ultimately willing to do whatever it takes to keep Earth and the universe safe in the MCU, a fact that holds true for Iron Man just as much as it does for Nova.
