Jim and Dwight’s relationship on The Office evolved in quite a few different ways over nine seasons of the hit series, though one of the recurring acts that brought them together (or occasionally tore them apart) was Jim’s recurring series of pranks and hijinks.

These hilarious pranks ranged from something as simple as Jim staring at Dwight’s forehead for no reason to paying co-workers to call Dwight “Dwayne” for the day, so today we are going to take a look at a few favorites from The Office.

10 IDENTITY THEFT

Jim managed to pull off one of his most memorable pranks in the show’s history for only $11 during the third-season episode “Product Recall” after he found a pair of glasses at a drug store that looked like Dwight’s, which he paired with a suit and other small items.

He proceeded to interrogate the increasingly angry Dwight with a series of questions and statements like the now-classic “Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.” Jim ended it perfectly by calling for Michael and running to his office seconds before the real Dwight did the same thing.

9 VENDING MACHINE SUPPLIES

Dwight’s office supplies often served as a good source of inspiration for Jim’s pranks, dating back to the first episode’s “stapler in Jell-O” prank, which recreated a similar prank from the original UK version of the show.

However, when Jim used his friendship with the vending machine restocker to fill Dunder Mifflin’s machine with Dwight’s office supplies, Dwight was forced to buy back his own supplies with Jim’s conveniently nearby supply of nickels.

8 PROFESSOR COPPERFIELD’S MIRACLE LEGUMES

In the season seven episode “Garage Sale,” Dwight endeavors to walk out of Dunder Mifflin’s staff garage sale with the best item there through trading up from a thumbtack, honoring the Shrute’s legacy as gifted traders.

Amazingly, Dwight manages to eventually trade up to an expensive telescope, however a long-running con from Jim about magical beans legumes eventually tricks Dwight, and he trades his hard-fought price for Jim’s pack of “Professor Copperfield’s Miracle Legumes.”

7 HOTEL ROOM CRIME SCENE

When Dwight took his team to Tallahassee to help oversee a new project for Sabre, he attempted to get an early start for the day by waking each of his team members up early in their hotel rooms with the help of Erin.

However, as Jim was on a two-kid sleep schedule and was up early, he used the extra time to make his room look like a crime scene that seemingly implicated Dwight, terrifying Dwight and Erin right before he dropped his “lifeless” body out of the closet.

6 REPLACED JIM WITH STEVE

Jim pulled one of his more elaborate tricks when he managed to convince Dwight that he had actually been an Asian man for the last twelve years of their professional career by having an actor friend named Steve pretend to be Jim.

Not only was the rest of the office going along with the prank, but Jim had doctored the family photos to include Steve, and Pam closed the deal with a quick kiss to make Dwight doubt his own sanity.

5 THE RED WIRE

Jim messed with Dwight’s desks in a number of ways over the years, from moving it to the men’s bathroom to replacing it with a Christmas wrapping paper recreation, but one of the best showed the heights that Jim would go to get Dwight.

Through the simple act of attaching a mysterious red wire to Dwight’s computer, Jim managed to lead him on a manic hunt following the path of the wire which ultimately connected high up in a phone pole, which both Jim and Dwight ended up having to climb.

4 FUTURE DWIGHT

Jim even managed to pull off his pranks long-distance during his time at Dunder Mifflin’s Utica office when he revealed that from time to time he would fax Dwight a note printed on his personalized stationery pretending to be Dwight from the future.

Dwight, believing himself capable of figuring out how to send faxes through time so believed them almost immediately, resulting in him hilariously slapping coffee out of Stanley’s hand after “Future Dwight” warned his past self about poisoned coffee.

3 THE PAVLOV EXPERIMENT

Pavlov was a scientist who trained his dogs to salivate at the sound of a rung bell after providing them food at the same time, which he attempted to recreate himself, though he decided to use Dwight as his test subject.

Using the sound from his restarting computer and an Altoids mint, Jim managed to condition Dwight into craving a mint when he heard the sound of the computer, causing his mouth to taste bad when Jim refused the mint after restarting his computer.

2 THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO THROWING A GARDEN PARTY

When Dunder Mifflin’s new Regional Manager Andy Bernard decided to throw a garden party to impress both his parents and CEO Robert California, he enlisted Dwight to hold the party at Schrute Farms.

Dwight read James Trickington’s The Ultimate Guide to Throwing a Garden Party in order to prepare, which was of course written by Jim and resulted in Dwight comedically announcing guests to the party and performing a “courtly dance” to set the tone for the afternoon.

1 BEST PRANK EVER

Finally, Jim’s self-appointed greatest prank occurred in the series finale at the wedding of Dwight and Angela, after Jim had fulfilled most of his demands as Dwight’s best man until he revealed that it was traditional for the Bestest Mensch to be older than the groom.

As Jim was significantly younger than Dwight he had to step down, but thankfully his replacement was quickly revealed as Michael Scott made his long-awaited return to The Office to stand alongside his former Assistant to the Regional Manager. “Best Prank Ever.”
