The Princess Switch franchise has some complex storylines due to three different characters looking exactly alike and switching places. Things get more complicated when a heist is involved, which is what happens in The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star. With a royal family and plenty of identity theft involved, the movies within the franchise show how intelligent the characters are.
It’s unknown if any of the characters received a higher education, but based on their behaviors in certain situations, street smarts go a long way with this group of characters. The Princess Switch goes to show that sometimes children can be smarter than adults and sometimes children can be smarter than adults and that royalty doesn’t always equal intelligence.
8 Count Antonio Rossi
Antonio Rossi only appeared in The Princess Switch 2: Switched Again, but he was one of the main characters because he took it upon himself to seduce Lady Margaret and worm his way into the royal family.
Upon meeting Antonio, he was introduced as Lady Margaret’s Chief of Staff. It appeared that he was good at his job because he had also worked with Margaret’s late parents. Considering Lady Margaret was new to her role as future queen, Antonio’s guidance was helpful. However, Antonio did some behind-the-scenes work over the holidays and teamed up with Fiona to get rid of Lady Margaret. But did Antonio really think he could get away with kidnapping the future queen and quickly marrying her look alike? A plan like that is not smart and he was ultimately caught.
7 Kevin Richards
Kevin may not have as many chances to shine intellectually as the others, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t smart. In fact, Kevin’s brilliance is shown as a single father and business owner. He even ran the bakery when Stacy got married and moved to Belgravia.
Nevertheless, Kevin had moments of naivete. Even though Lady Margaret and Stacy looked identical, he had no idea they were different people. He acted similarly in the second and third movies when he was fooled by Fiona and Antonio. Even his best friend Stacy told Margaret, “Kevin is like a puppy; if you’re nice to him he’ll follow you anywhere.” As loving and bright as Kevin is, it’s his innocence that hurts him.
6 Olivia Richards
The Princess Switch 3 was one of the most awaited holiday movies of 2021, and Olivia’s presence was a big reason why. As Kevin’s daughter, Olivia was braver and more outgoing than her dad. An outsider, she saw the connection Kevin had with Margaret and did everything she could to get them together.
Olivia used her smarts in the second movie when she orchestrated a plan to get Margaret and her dad alone by Stacy taking Margaret’s place for the day. More than this, Olivia was bright enough to notice the differences between Stacy and Margaret when they switched places.
5 Stacy De Novo
Stacy De Novo was one of the protagonists of The Princess Switch franchise. Throughout every movie, Stacy showed her intelligence time and time again. Her culinary skills were impressive in the Belgravia bake-off, and her time as a business owner also showed her smarts.
When Stacy began a relationship with Edward, her genius continued when it came to political affairs. She became head of the royal charities and had a say in Edward’s political position. Edward adored the fact that Stacy was hands-on and bright because it reminded him of his grandmother. However, Stacy had her flaws, as she wasn’t particularly educated on the royal family or their customs.
4 Prince Edward
Royal families are a common trope in holiday rom-coms, but it never ages. Edward Wyndham was the Prince of Belgravia. He was set to marry Lady Margaret but after meeting Stacy, plans changed and the two married instead.
Although Edward wasn’t bright enough to tell Margaret and Stacy apart like Olivia did, he was proficient in the piano, ran a country, and most likely went to top schools as a young royal. Considering Edward was groomed to become the prince (and one day king), there’s no denying that he’s probably the most educated character in the franchise.
3 Lady Margaret
The Princess Switch franchise is a great romantic holiday movie to binge-watch because there are multiple romantic angles the movies take. There’s Margaret and Kevin, Fiona and Peter, Stacy and Edward — each more unique than the next.
Lady Margaret grew up dedicated to Montenaro and was the brains behind the country after she became queen. On top of running her own country, it was Margaret who thought of the idea to switch places with Stacy so that she could live a life that wasn’t royal. In the third movie, it was also Margaret who thought of the idea to swap places with Fiona to get the Star of Peace back to the kingdom. From switching places to political agendas to relationships, Lady Margaret can do it all.
2 Fiona Pembroke
Fiona Pembroke was one of the antagonists in The Princess Switch 2 and 3. As Margaret’s cousin, she didn’t have the same kind of upbringing since her mother abandoned her and left her at an orphanage. With spite in her heart, Fiona robbed people of their riches and did what she could to get back at Margaret to gain control of her kingdom.
Although Fiona eventually got caught for kidnapping Lady Margaret and conspiring with her former Chief of Staff, she obviously had the brains to get away with a lot throughout her life. To save herself, she even had two minions, Mindy and Reggie, do her dirty work for her.
1 Peter Maxwell
Peter Maxwell was introduced in the third installment of The Princess Switch. Like Fiona, he grew up in an orphanage and lived a life of crime. When he got out of prison, he created a security company because he knew how to secure possessions against the sort of criminal he used to be.
He used his intelligence to get past the other antagonist, Hunter Cunard, and steal the Star of Peace from him. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, he even fooled Fiona and stole the Star of Peace from her. Without Peter, Fiona wouldn’t have been able to help her cousin. She also wouldn’t have reconnected with her absent mother if wasn’t for Peter’s persistence. Without Peter’s smarts, The Princess Switch 3 wouldn’t have ended well.
