The Teen Wolf Movie Can Make Up For Stiles Season 6 Absence

The in-development Teen Wolf movie can make up for Stiles Stilinski’s (Dylan O’Brien) absence in the show’s final season. It’s been recently reported that series creator Jeff Davis just signed a deal with MTV that includes him spearheading the upcoming project for Paramount Plus. In it, Alpha wolf Scott McCall (Tyler Posey) is forced to fight a brand new evil to protect Beacon Hills with his pack comprised of new and old faces.

Not much else has been revealed about the movie thus far, with a release date still unknown. There was also no word regarding confirmed cast members, with a higher interest in learning who among the original ensemble from the MTV show will be back on the big screen. Despite that, it’s safe to say that O’Brien will reprise his roles as Stiles in the Teen Wolf film opposite Posey’s McCall. While he’s not its titular character, there’s a case to be made about Stiles being as important in its storytelling. Unlike his best friend, Sheriff Noah Stilinski’s (Linden Ashby) son is more adventurous, which makes him a great contrast to his best friend who is more uptight.

When it was announced that Teen Wolf season 6 would be its last, viewers of the fantastical series looked forward to the last hurrah for Stiles and McCall. But, that was one thing that the show didn’t deliver on as Stiles was barely in it due to a couple of factors. For starters, filming conflicted with the production of Maze Runner: The Death Cure where O’Brien played the main character, Thomas. To make matters worse, the actor suffered a major injury while shooting the movie, further limiting his involvement in Teen Wolf’s final season. Admittedly, it was impressive that writers of the MTV project somehow found a way to incorporate Stiles in the story without pushing O’Brien to be physically active. Still, it’s disappointing to think that had things worked out smoothly, it could’ve ended with more interactions between McCall and his best friend. Luckily, with the Teen Wolf movie in the works, Daniels and MTV get another chance to make up for this.

It’s currently uncertain how the upcoming film will relate to where things were left off in the TV show. After high school, Stiles left Beacon Hills for an internship at the FBI. Depending on when the events of the movie take place, he may still be in the middle of his six-month program when the narrative picks up. Otherwise, if MTV wants to present the characters more differently, a longer time jump can be executed. Assuming that this is the case, it’s interesting to see if there are going to be any changes in terms of McCall and Stiles’ dynamic since they’re on their separate journeys. Whatever the case may be, viewers are just happy that the pair can be reunited once again on the screen.

Daniels and the team behind this upcoming Teen Wolf film have their work cut out for them since the series delivered a generally satisfying finale. This is particularly special since pulling off great endings have become rare these days. But, the idea of being able to fully utilize Stiles in the film is already a big help in ensuring that the new project will be worth the effort and money.
