With Netflix’s The Witcher now in full swing, excitement levels are high for the third season, but who will be in it?

The Netflix adaptation of The Witcher has been widely well-received by the masses following its first two seasons, especially satisfying those with high expectations following the success of The Witcher 3 video game. While the first season opted to set the stage with multiple timelines and stories that eventually linked together, the second season started to build serious traction with the main narratives and character progression.

With the show now in full swing, excitement levels are high for the third season. Capturing or protecting Ciri now appears to be the focus of the show, and with Geralt telling Vesemir of his plans to leave Kaer Morhen, there is no guarantee that Vesemir and the other witchers will feature in the next season, nor do they need to. Other characters that can benefit from taking a season out are Triss and the impending antagonists of The Witcher, the Wild Hunt.

10 Geralt’s Bodyguard & Fatherly Duties Will Be Called Into Action Once Again

In a surprise to no one, Henry Cavill will be returning in his main role as Geralt of Rivia, the titular Witcher. Geralt will once again be risking everything to keep Ciri safe, but now with the additional assistance from Yennefer.

It remains to be seen if and when Geralt can start to trust Yennefer again, but as he believes Ciri is what they always needed, this new trio could well work out. However, Geralt’s witching skills will no doubt be called into action, with multiple parties now being aware of Ciri’s powers and overall worth. There isn’t a particular necessity for Geralt’s witcher brethren to return straight away for the third season, with Geralt and company leaving the comforts of Kaer Morhen for the long and perilous roads ahead.

9 Ciri Is Going To Be The Target of Multiple Groups & Factions

The Witcher series may be titled after Geralt, but Ciri is the character whose growth and progression are of paramount importance to the show’s narrative. Freya Allen will once again bring life to Cirilla as she learns how to use and control her powers with help from Yennefer while they try to avoid multiple pursuing parties.

There are bound to be complications along the way, however, with Ciri being unaware of her father being alive and in pursuit of her. There is still space for more trauma to add shape to Ciri’s character, which spells certain danger for Season 3.

8 Season 3 Will See Yennefer Looking To Atone For Her Past Betrayals

Season 3 is all about redemption for Yennefer. She has always been fixated on bettering herself and grasping power so as to forget about her traumatic past, but she is now responsible for looking after and coaching Ciri in the ways of managing chaos.

Yennefer has never been a directly trustworthy person, which means that she will have to earn her favor back from both Geralt and Ciri. Fortunately, her selfless sacrifice at the end of the second season has gone a long way in doing that, not to mention the fact that it gave her back her ability to use magic.

7 The Elves & Istredd Could Prove To Be Valuable Allies For Team Ciri

Francesca has been through a lot since her introduction at the start of the second season of The Witcher, first giving birth to an elven baby that was supposed to be a fresh start for her race, only for it to be assassinated, prompting her to go into a rage and exact revenge on countless human babies.

On the verge of spiraling out of control, Francesca is confronted by Istredd at the end of Season 2, who reveals to her that Ciri is Hen Ikeir, a name that brings hope to the elves, as they believe she is their saviour. While many other parties are pursuing Ciri out of malice or fear, expect her to have some allies in the elves in the third season, with Istredd likely still playing his part.

6 Fringilla & Cahir Will Need To Face The Consequences Of Their Actions

Having been arrested for trying to deceive the White Flame in the final scene of the second season finale “Family,” both Fringilla and Cahir will be shown dealing with the consequences of their actions, whether they are given a second chance to prove themselves or not.

Both have shown considerable character progression throughout the second season, with them getting more time in the spotlight beyond just their evil actions of the first season. It would be a waste to cut them out entirely when there is still more to be done with them as ashamed and perhaps even conflicted servants of the White Flame.

5 Vilgefortz, Tissaia & The Brotherhood Will Be Hot On Ciri’s Trail

Tissaia always seems to find herself in conflicting positions, with her feeling protective of her mages at Aretuza and being in love with Vilgefortz, all while constantly butting heads with Stregobor and having a seat on the Brotherhood with the kings and queens of other regions.

At the end of the second season, Tissaia expressed her commitment to joining the cause in finding and capturing Ciri, so whether she is with or against Vilgefortz in doing so, she will undoubtedly feature. This could even create complications down the road if and when she discovers that Yennefer is protecting the girl. Triss’s involvement isn’t entirely clear ahead of the third season, but she could well feature alongside Tissaia.

4 Dijkstra & Philippa Are Making A Play For The Bard

Dijkstra announced himself in The Witcher’s second season as King Vizima’s right-hand man with all of the spies and connections, but that was all likely nothing compared to the moves he will be making in the third season. With Philippa revealed to be the owl that has been spying on other people’s meetings and interactions, Dijkstra also lays out his intentions to speak to Jaskier, no doubt to help them stay ahead of the curve in pursuing Ciri.

With Graham MacTavish being perfect casting for the conniving spymaster Dijkstra, expect the mysterious character to continue his manipulation in the chaos that will likely begin to ensue, with Philippa likely to be involved more since the reveal of her human form.

3 Jaskier Has Dijkstra & Philippa After Him

With Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri making plans to set off as a trio, this would have left Jaskier with no real direction for Season 3, if not for Sigismund Dijkstra revealing himself as the bard’s benefactor and detailing his intentions to extract information from him.

Jaskier will undoubtedly show loyalty to Geralt and Yennefer, but Dijkstra has already proven his cunning and manipulating prowess that could render even the most loyal of friends helpless to spilling secrets. Another musical performance from Jaskier is also paramount, after the successes of “Toss A Coin To Your Witcher” and “Burn Butcher Burn”.

2 Lydia & Rience Will Join The Race To Capture Ciri

With all of the different parties now out to capture or kill Ciri, Rience and Lydia, along with their mysterious leader, have arguably made the most progress, even more so than Nilfgaard. Although Rience was unable to capture Ciri, he was able to retrieve the vial of Ciri’s blood that Vesemir and Triss had turned into a concoction to make more witchers.

The reveal of their mysterious leader may be kept until the end of Season 3 or even Season 4, but expect Rience at the very least, to be hot on the trail of Ciri, Geralt, and Yennefer.

1 Emhyr Has Just Been Revealed As Ciri’s Father So Has To Feature

The final scene of “Family” sees Emperor Emhyr var Emreis, the White Flame, revealed to be Ciri’s believed-to-be-dead father. While shocking, the reveal also makes complete sense when considering Nilfgaard’s apparent advanced knowledge of Ciri’s powers before she was even aware of them herself.

Whether or not Emhyr will join the search for Ciri himself remains to be seen, but with him using Cintra as a base of operations, he will no doubt double his efforts to locate his daughter, while being wary of any potential opposition.
