Naughty Dog is celebrating five years of Uncharted 4 today, and it has revealed that over 37 million people have played the final installment in Nathan Drake’s story. Although it’s not clear how many copies have been sold to date, Uncharted 4 has been a massive success for Sony and Naughty Dog.

As of May 2019, Uncharted 4 had sold over 15 million copies, which is incredibly impressive for a game that’s only available on one platform. Naughty Dog has distanced itself from the franchise since the last entry, but Sony has been trying to make new Uncharted games with other developers. It’s not clear when Sony wants to bring the series back to the public eye, but it seems like, if nothing else, it will be long enough to allow new IP to breathe and allow fans to miss Uncharted. It also helps that people are still going back and playing Uncharted 4.

Uncharted 4 turns five today and Naughty Dog dropped some stats to celebrate. 37 million people have played the game since launch in 2016, though it’s likely that this was boosted through game rentals, game sharing, and more; this seems a more realistic conclusion than the idea that each player bought their own copy of the game. Additionally, 13.3 million players have dabbled in multiplayer, 9.8 million played with the lemur in chapter 11, and 2 million players took a photo of Sully.

To celebrate the 5th anniversary of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End’s release, we want to thank the players who joined us and Nathan Drake on this wild ride. ✌️ Remember to play with the lemur! #SicParvisMagna pic.twitter.com/YVlmu36KOz

Uncharted 4 fans have shown their passion time and time again, so it’s no surprise that the game has seen so many players embarking on Nathan Drake’s adventure. It’s also possible that a lot of these fans played the game for the first time simply by purchasing a PS4. For a while, the game was included with many PlayStation 4 Slim units. It’s not clear if Sony counted that as a sale of the game, or if it wasn’t factored in since the game was essentially free. Regardless, the game has been in the hands of millions of people through console bundles, PlayStation Plus deals, and is even available to all PlayStation 5 owners with an active PlayStation Plus subscription.

Although one iteration of the next Uncharted has been scrapped, it’s likely that the massive success of the franchise will push Sony back into adventure, just like Nathan Drake himself. Whether or not Sony plans to revive the series for the PlayStation 5 or will sit out another generation remains to be seen. Given the ending of Uncharted 4, it’s also not totally clear if Sony would continue Nathan Drake’s story or pick up with another cast of characters.
