For fans of reality television, Bravo is one of the most consistent networks when it comes to genre-defining hits. And, while the Real Housewives franchise is iconic, Vanderpump Rules was something else entirely. The shocking and obsession-worthy show has had many committed fans, including celebrities, but things changed when cast members, Stassi Schroeder and Kristen Doute, were fired over racist remarks they made and actions they did against a former cast member, Faith Stowers.

Since then, two other main cast members, Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright, announced their time on the show was over, but the exact details for this were unknown. And, with issues with filming because of the pandemic, fans are now left wondering if the show is going to come back and whether or not it should in the first place.

10 Can Be: There is room for some spin-offs

No matter what happens with this series, it’s never going to look like it used to. And, in many ways, this is a really good thing. With the Black Lives Matter movement reaching a tipping point this summer, many series and companies all over are having a reckoning about the racism they’ve let slide in the past. So, it’s good to see some justice being served.

However, going back to the original isn’t possible, or even a good thing, there is a lot of spin-off potential for less problematic characters such as Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix.

9 Shouldn’t Be: The last couple of seasons were boring

Some of the seasons of Vanderpump Rules were truly explosive. While all reality TV has some elements of being really fake, there was something real about this show that drew people to it.

The cast members were all mostly on and off friends who dated one another, and they really did seem to have dramatic lives. However, the last two seasons started to get boring as the cast settled down and got older. The series changed to trying to make the cast members seem less wild, and it just didn’t work.

8 Can Be: There are still some good cast members left

While many of the cast members of the series were problematic at best, there are some who don’t deserve to have their lives completely ruined because of the actions of others.

For cast members like Stassi and Jax, bad behavior and problematic moments have happened a lot over the years, but others, like Ariana, Raquel, and Scheana, aren’t as bad overall.

7 Shouldn’t Be: The series needs to move past filming at SUR

When the series first started, the cast members were mostly all wait staff at SUR, Lisa Vanderpump’s West Hollywood restaurant. This was how the spin-off got started, and it was clear these people really did work there. They weren’t yet reality TV stars.

But, as the series went on and the cast members became stars in their own right, it became less and less realistic that they actually worked regular shifts at the restaurant. But, the series continued to try and convince viewers of this, and this concept needs to be done with entirely moving forward.

6 Can Be: Move the location to TomTom

There are a few ways the show could go if it has another season. They could ditch the idea of a restaurant as the central location altogether and just focus more on where the cast member’s lives take them. However, it makes the most sense to center the show on TomTom.

As the newest restaurant and bar owned by Lisa Vanderpump and co-owned by Tom Sandoval and Tom Schwartz who still remain on the cast, it would be a simple thing to do. This would allow a place for new cast members to join up and give a meet-up location where many of the cast would likely already be.

5 Shouldn’t Be: Because Most of The Cast Has Aged Out

While there is definitely room to move the location to TomTom and focus more on the original cast members who are still left, the show might not be right for the cast anymore.

All of the cast members are years older than when they first began filming, and in a different part of their lives, save for James Kennedy and Raquel Leviss. They are finally moving onto more mature existences. So, unless dans want to have a show more like Real Housewives, it might not work anymore.

4 Can Be: Bring in new cast members that are actually interesting

The biggest and most obvious solution to the fact that the main cast members left are older and more settled is to introduce new people. This happened with Lala Kent and James Kennedy, and they ended up becoming big stars.

However, other attempts haven’t been as successful. There were many new people brought in for season eight, and some of them worked at TomTom, but they mostly flopped. The biggest issue is that they even brought in cast members who weren’t properly vetted, Brett Caprioni and Max Boyens, who were fired after one season for their racist tweets. So, the series would have to really ensure it brought better cast members on.

3 Shouldn’t Be: It will be hard to get out from under the scandal of the firings

While there might be a few things worth salvaging and a few people from the cast who still have reality TV potential, it might just be too difficult to emerge after four cast members were fired for racism and two more were likely fired for other issues.

All of these scandals might just make the show seem a little too problematic. With so many of the cast fired for doing some pretty terrible things, there’s a lot of building up that would need to be done.

2 Can Be: If they actually hire and focus on diverse cast members

Vanderpump Rules 5 Ways The Show Can Be Saved (& 5 Reasons Why It Shouldnt Be)

The only reason the show could ever be worth watching again is if Bravo committed to actual diversity for once. The show is set in West Hollywood, yet it has always centered on a mostly straight and almost entirely white cast. This doesn’t even reflect the reality of the location at all. When cast members that aren’t white or straight have been brought on, like Faith Stowers and Billie Lee, they weren’t kept around long and were often bullied by other members of the cast.

While it is worth noting that two women from the show, Ariana Madix and Dayna Kathan both are bisexual, it would be great to see some more LGBTQ+ cast members and storylines. And, the fact that the show has only really ever had one cast member who wasn’t white is absolutely something that must change immediately.

1 Shouldn’t Be: Because the series let the problematic behavior of so many cast members last for too long

On the other hand of this coin, trying to actually be committed to a diverse cast and treating those cast members well might be too little too late. It was only when met with enough backlash that Bravo did anything about cast members accused of racism, even though these actions had been in the news long before these people were fired.

There have also been scandals involving homophobic issues with cast members when Jax and Brittany’s pastor was reported to be very anti-LGBTQ+. So, it seems like Bravo doesn’t care at all about these issues until they have to.
