Vikings 10 Villains Who Deserved Harsher Consequences

If there is one thing that History Channel’s Vikings is good at, it is having monumental villains for the protagonists to overcome. The show understands that the antagonists should be someone that the viewers hate and is also someone that poses a serious threat to the heroes.

It can’t just be some little quarrel between two people with no stakes involved. Sadly, not all villains in the show get exactly what they deserve.

10 Ivar The Boneless

While Ivar The Boneless hasn’t exactly met his demise in the show yet, it is hard to imagine an end that would satisfy. He has done some really despicable things to those closest to him and has brought shame upon his family’s name. He has proven himself unworthy to be Ragnar’s son and heir. If only he would not of let his anger control him, he might have become a tragic figure, instead of someone who deserved a tragic death.

9 Rollo

Vikings 10 Villains Who Deserved Harsher Consequences

While Rollo might not be considered the typical villain of the show, he was always a thorn in the side of the show’s main protagonist, Ragnar Lothbrok for four seasons. It is hard not to feel bad for him to a certain extent as deep inside he isn’t an evil man. He is just a man who lets jealousy control his every action. In the end, he has gained all that he desires and more but still appears to hate himself all the more for his own successes.

8 King Ecbert

During the end of his time on Vikings, King Ecbert became a sympathetic character but that doesn’t excuse all the years of terrible behavior he showed towards basically everyone in his path for most of his life.

He was a natural backstabber and a selfish king who sought to do what was best for himself. His deceiving nature overwhelmed each part of his life to the very end. A man whose mistress is his son’s wife deserves a more violent death than getting his wrists slit.

7 King Aelle

Vikings 10 Villains Who Deserved Harsher Consequences

King Aelle left a lasting impression on fans of History Channel’s Vikings. Mostly this impression is due to the apathy they have for his character after he was the one to finally kill the legendary Ragnar Lothbrok by casting him in a den of vipers. King Aelle was a merciless human being that lacked a conscious. He was cruel to his daughter, his subjects, and especially to his enemies. He did eventually get the blood eagle but it was too quick a death.

6 Earl Haraldson

If not for Earl Haraldson’s fear that Ragnar was out to take him down, he might have remained Earl of Kattegat. Earl Haraldson had earned his place as the leader of Kattegat but when Ragnar desired men to go in search of lands beyond its reach, Haraldson’s paranoia kicked in, he first tried to spy on Ragnar then he tried to murder him and his family. In the end, he lost everything including his life to Ragnar but for his actions, he deserved worse.

5 Jarl Borg

Vikings 10 Villains Who Deserved Harsher Consequences

Jarl Borg just had a way of bringing out the worst in Ragnar. Borg didn’t just try to take over Ragnar’s lands but he tried to murder his family and ended up causing a permanent rift between Ragnar and Rollo. After becoming Earl of Kattegat, Jarl Borg was Ragnar’s first great test.

A test that Ragnar wouldn’t of overcome if not for attracting his brother back over to his side. Borg deserved a million blood eagles instead of just the one he got.

4 King Horik

Vikings 10 Villains Who Deserved Harsher Consequences

King Horik was one of Ragnar’s greatest foes throughout the second season of Vikings. He was an ambitious King of Denmark who sought lands beyond his control. His ambition knew no boundaries and neither did his ruthlessness. After Ragnar gained control of Kattegat, King Horik presents himself as an ally and a raiding partner for Ragnar’s quests to England. Even though they were supposed to be allies, King Horik sought to betray Ragnar and take over his lands. Fortunately, Ragnar discovered his plans before he could properly enact them.

3 Count Odo

Vikings 10 Villains Who Deserved Harsher Consequences

There are some strange characters on Vikings but one of the strangest is Count Odo. While he served as head of the Frankish forces, he secretly sought to dethrone Emperor Charles II and place himself as king. If that didn’t work he intended on marrying Emperor Charles’ daughter Gisla.

He was a very ambitious man who had many hidden secrets that even the Emperor didn’t know. In the end, it was his whipping fetish that did him in but he deserved a far worse fate for his treachery.

2 Emperor Charles II

Vikings 10 Villains Who Deserved Harsher Consequences

Emperor Charles II was one of the weakest kings to ever appear on Vikings. That said, he did rule over the Franks, who controlled much of France during this time period, making him a formidable foe to Ragnar.

In fact, if not for Ragnar’s cunning tricks, Emperor Charles and his fortified city of Paris would have defeated the invading Vikings. While Emperor Charles II still lives, just for no other reason than the way he treats his daughter and his minions make him deserving of a painful death.

1 Brihtwulf

Brihtwulf might not have been one of the longest-running villains on Vikings but he sure was responsible for a wake of destruction that affected many important events around Ragnar and his sons. Brihtwulf became the King of Mercia after his brother the former king passed away. He was able to control the actual rightful heir to the throne Burgred, thereby placing himself as king over his nephew. If that wasn’t bad enough, he was accused of raping his niece Kwenthrith when she was a child.
