WWE Superstar Big E recently shared that WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon wanted to break up the New Day when the trio’s star began to rise during Kofimania in 2019.

“I know there were rumors for a while that certain things were pitched,” Big E told Talksport. “But I think because we had been so adamant about not wanting to be broken up I think that’s where people were like ‘Ehhh, I don’t know if we should because they really don’t want it.'”

The entertainer added that he couldn’t “really divulge the conversation,” but confirmed, “…The very head of what we do — you know exactly who I’m talking about — he directly told us ‘Hey, this is the idea’ and we said, ‘We’re not feeling it.'” Big E also noted there were other WWE execs who wanted to break up the New Day even ahead of Kofimania.

“If we’d done it, we would have missed out on so many great moments,” Big E continued. “I still think that doing it now or soon, there are great moments to come and we have a lot more to offer. I think you’ve seen happy, clappy New Day for a very long time.”

During the same conversation, Big E said he’d still like to explore some of the original storylines they had planned for the New Day but never had the chance to execute.

“When you saw Woods come out in that red and white suit in 2014… that was our original intent, our original plan!” he recalled. “To be this hard-nosed, not shaking hands, not singing, not shucking and jiving anymore – we’re not taking it anymore. We’re not sitting back, we’re going to take it.”

Big E further teased that the trio of him, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods “have so much to offer as a group. I get our business is a business of conflict, but I think the story of brotherhood and three guys who genuinely want the best for each other is different and unique.”

While Big E currently performs for the SmackDown banner, and Kofi and Xavier recently moved over to Raw, Big E concluded that it opens the door for a variety of cross-promotion. “Anytime you see that forbidden door be opened and you see people cross-promotions, it’s just cool man. There’s so many matchups you’d never see that people would love to see.”

Big E will next compete against Ricochet, John Morrison, Matt Riddle, Drew McIntyre, Kevin Owens, Shinsuke Nakamura and Seth Rollins during the Money in the Bank pay-per-view event on July 18. The event will also see Bobby Lashley facing off against Kofi Kingston in a WWE Championship match, Roman Reigns taking on Edge for the Universal Championship and Rhea Ripley facing Charlotte Flair in the Raw Women’s Championship.
