Where Is Yennefer In The Witcher Season 2

The first trailer for The Witcher season 2 confirmed the return of Yennefer and her imprisonment by the Nilfgaardian army, but where exactly is she when she’s found? It’s not surprising for successful book series to make the jump to other media to further expand their universes and capitalize on their popularity, and it was only a matter of time for The Witcher to get its own TV show. This book series by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski was adapted into a movie and TV show in Poland in 2001 and 2002, but it wasn’t until 2019 when an English adaptation arrived thanks to Netflix.

This version of The Witcher not just focuses on the title character but also on two others, whose stories are set in different places and points in time, with their paths converging towards the end of season 1. These characters are Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), the title witcher; Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra), a powerful sorceress; and Ciri (Freya Allan), the crown princess of Cintra who is bound to Geralt by the Law of Surprise. Netflix knew what it has in The Witcher and renewed it for a second season before the first one was out, and fans are now waiting for season 2 to arrive in December and answer some of the biggest questions left by season 1, such as where Yennefer went.

At the end of The Witcher season 1, Yennefer joined the Battle of Sodden Hill to defend Cintra from the attack of the Nilfgaardian army, for which she channeled all her chaos (or magic) to create a massive stream of fire to attack the enemy’s army. However, this was too much for Yennefer and she disappeared from the battlefield, leaving viewers and the characters close to her confused. Unlike what it might seem, Yennefer didn’t die, and her survival was revealed in the first batch of official images from The Witcher season 2 and confirmed in the first trailer, in which she briefly appears right at the end. Yennefer is found by Fringilla, and it’s assumed that she was taken prisoner as the aforementioned images showed her shackled, but where was she found?

This question has gained force as seconds before Yennefer’s appearance in the Witcher season 2 trailer, Tissaia de Vries (MyAnna Buring) is shown looking for her on the battlefield, but if Fringilla and the Nilfgaardian army found her, she shouldn’t have been too far from there. Yennefer is shown in a forest, so perhaps she ended up far enough from the battlefield for Tissaia and company not finding her but she happened to be on the Nilfgaardian army’s way. It’s also possible that she was found by Fringilla and company before Tissaia and the rest and they took her with her, as a bonfire can be seen behind Fringilla, suggesting they are already far from the battlefield and on their way back to Nilfgaard. Prior to the release of the trailer, it was speculated that Yennefer could have been caught by the Wild Hunt, a group of specters riding on undead horses galloping across the sky and considered an omen of war. The Wild Hunt learn about Ciri and her powers and target her for her Elder Blood, so this theory wasn’t that unlikely to be true.

An even bigger question than where Yennefer is in The Witcher season 2 is how she will break free from them and join Geralt and Ciri, as she surely won’t spend the rest of her days as a prisoner of the Nilfgaardian army. The trailer for The Witcher season 2 revealed enough to have an idea of this season’s story but was also mysterious enough to have fans talking about it and eagerly waiting for the new episodes to arrive – and until then, fans can continue speculating about Yennefer’s post-Battle of Sodden Hill fate.
