Where To Spot Original 21 Jump St Star Holly Robinson Peetes Movie Cameo

Here’s where to spot original 21 Jump Street star Holly Robinson Peete’s cameo in the 2012 movie adaptation. While Johnny Depp made his movie debut in horror classic A Nightmare On Elm Street, it was his lead role in 1980s cop series 21 Jump Street that led him to stardom. This series centered on a unit of youthful-looking cops as they investigate illegal activities in various schools or universities. Depp reportedly hated his time on the series, however, and gladly departed after four seasons.

21 Jump Street itself lasted for five seasons and produced a short-lived spinoff with Booker, following Richard Grieco’s title character. A 21 Jump Street movie starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum didn’t sound like the most organic reboot attempt, but this 2012 adaptation proved to be a pleasant surprise. It gave Tatum a chance to show off his previously untapped comic chops, and thanks to his great chemistry with Hill and the direction of Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the movie became a big hit.

Of course, fans of the original series wondered if Johnny Depp or any other cast members would pop up in the 21 Jump Street movie prior to release. Depp and co-star Peter DeLuise make surprise appearances near the end of the movie, though they actually feature in an earlier scene under heavy makeup. Holly Robinson Peete played Officer Judy Hoffs on the original show and also makes a brief cameo when Hill’s Schmidt and Tatum’s Jenko need a cool car for their undercover operation.

Holly Robinson Peete’s Hoffs appears at around the 21-minute mark in 21 Jump Street and takes Schmidt and Jenko to their sweet new ride. She warns them not to go wild with it – which of course they immediately do in the next scene. It’s a small appearance ultimately, but it was nice to see Hoffs reappear regardless. Holly Robinson Peete actually sang the original theme for the show too, with both Depp and DeLuise proving the famous “Jump!” parts.

22 Jump Street later featured an all too brief cameo from Richard Grieco’s Booker during the end credits. This was actually part of a bigger deleted scene where Jenko is talked back into rejoining Jump Street thanks to Booker’s advice – who makes a very meta gag about his own failed spinoff – but this was snipped from the movie. There have been various reports about the future of the 21 Jump Street franchise, including a third movie or a female-focused spinoff possibly fronted by Awkwafina and Tiffany Haddish. Currently, there’s no movement on a new movie, however.
