Who Assassins Creeds Most Evil Villains Are

Assassin’s Creed has been one of Ubisoft’s leading trademark series since its initial release in 2007, and it has always been filled with vicious villains. The games follow the events of an ancient war between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order. Each entry of the series sees players pursuing Relics of Eden, powerful tools and weapons capable of manipulating the will of the masses. Through the use of the Animus, modern Templars and Assassins venture through their ancestors’ memories to track these Relics down. Assassin’s Creed has explored many popular time periods and cultures, taking players from the Crusades to Ancient Rome, Ancient Egypt, and beyond.

Ubisoft’s most recent installment, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, ventures into the era of Norse gods and Vikings. Playing as Layla Hassan in the modern-day and as Eivor Varinsdottir in the Middle Ages, Valhalla delves into the hunt for the Staff of Eden. Utilizing new features with larger maps, Assassin’s Creed games have journeyed further and further away from the stealth genre which sparked its initial popularity. The newest entries of Assassin’s Creed have included more open-world RPG features, including skill trees, perk progression, weapon types, and more distinguished level systems.

With 12 main games and 17 spinoff games in the series, Assassin’s Creed has introduced numerous villains into the franchise’s canon over the years. Some antagonists, like Haytham Kenway, worm their way into the hearts of players with reasonable arguments and good manners. Others actively work to betray beloved protagonists every time they appear on the screen. Perhaps the most influential and powerful villain of the Assassin’s Creed series is Juno. An Isu from the First Civilization, Juno is shown to have an agenda beyond the understanding of both the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order. Regarding humans as mere tools to help Juno control the world, she frequently manipulates Templars and Assassins alike, leading them to their deaths.

Assassin’s Creed Villains Come In Many Forms

All-powerful beings are not the only enemies present within the Assassin’s Creed universe, and Ubisoft has crafted many humans who fulfill the role of villain. Warren Vidic is the first modern antagonist introduced in the Assassin’s Creed series. Responsible for the kidnapping of Desmond Miles and a member of the Inner Sanctum in the Templar Order, Vidic is guilty of human rights violations and criminal activity. Being responsible for the torture and deaths of many civilians and assassins, Vidic regularly disregards the treatment and well-being of his subjects and allies. He played a vital role in the recent genocide of the Assassin Brotherhood as the scientist who tortured and brainwashed Daniel Cross into becoming a sleeper agent. Uncaring towards the wellbeing of his subjects and fellow Templars, Vidic’s drive for results and victory often finds beloved characters falling victim to his plots.

The final villain is a name that many players will recognize: Rodrigo Borgia. Appearing as the primary antagonist for Assassin’s Creed 2, Borgia was the Grandmaster of the Templar Order and a former friend to the Auditore family. In exchange for power, he betrayed and attempted to murder the males of the Auditore family. Ezio Auditore was the only survivor and was left alone to protect his sister and mother. Borgia successfully manipulated an entire religious following and secured his position as Pope to gain access to a hidden vault full of ancient knowledge. His flippant betrayal of the Auditore family and grand deception of the Catholic faith secures Borgia as one of the most deplorable villains in the series.

The Assassin’s Creed world is full of gray morals and atrocities, with the end of human life always just a breath away. Both the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order have produced many villains throughout the course of their war. Juno, Warren Vidic, and Rodrigo Borgia are just a few of the many enemies which have appeared in the Assassin’s Creed series, but their disregard for human life and honor presents them as particularly monstrous and unforgivable individuals.
