Wonder Woman 2 First Look Chris Pine Heads to 1984

Patty Jenkins reveals the first look at Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor in the 1980s for Wonder Woman 2. As principal photography for the forthcoming Warner Bros.’ sequel – which is officially titled Wonder Woman 1984 – begins, more details regarding the much-anticipated movie start to emerge, including a confirmation that Pine is indeed back reprising his role as Diana Prince’s (Gal Gadot) lover and American pilot, Steve Trevor

Last year, Screen Rant exclusively broke the news that Wonder Woman 2 will be set in the 1980s and that Chris Pine would be returning. This time period is at the height of the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union – something that was confirmed by Jenkins to be in the movie back in April, and subsequently, Geoff Johns revealed the film’s first teaser poster. Our report also explained that Pine will be back in action, despite the fact that his character was killed off towards the end of the first Wonder Woman movie. Now, that specific detail is also validated by Jenkins via our first look at the actor on set for the follow-up film.

Taking to her official Twitter account, Jenkins dropped the first promo still for Wonder Woman 2 – which happens to feature Pine in the ’80s. Warner Bros. additionally revealed the HD version of the photo. Check it out below:

But how does Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor return? Screen Rant has you covered. We also explained last year how Chris Pine can return for Wonder Woman 1984. You’re welcome.

Not much can be deciphered from the image as Pine’s outfit can be anything between a casual get-up to a secret operative trying to blend into the crowd (which makes sense considering his World War I experience). However, it’s important to point out how he didn’t seem to age considering that the sequel takes place a few decades since his first appearance. This lends credence to our theory on how Wonder Woman 2 is able to bring back Pine without cheapening Trevor’s heartbreaking death in Wonder Woman.

Elsewhere in the image, it’s amusing to see how people in the background all seem to have fully embraced the funky and flamboyant fashion sense of the ’80s. It will be interesting to see what the overall aesthetic of Wonder Woman 2 will be and how its vibrant and lively vibe will conceal the fact that there’s a brewing turmoil between the U.S. and the Soviet Union.

Aside from the above promo still featuring Pine, Gadot has also unveiled our first look at Diana in the 1980s. Plot details regarding the movie are still scant at the moment, but Kristen Wiig will play Wonder Woman 2’s primary antagonist, Cheetah, meanwhile, Game of Thrones alumni, Pedro Pascal is also set to board the sequel in a yet to be confirmed role. We can expect more information to come regarding Wonder Woman 1984 as its production continues in the next several months.

Accidental movie fan who is perpetually curious, Ana rekindled her love for writing several years back and married it with everything pop culture. The result is a passionate young writer who could ramble (and of course, pen) about films and series multiple hours a day. She has a soft spot for The Lion King, old songs, and home design; is currently obsessed with old sitcoms (The Golden Girls!); and won’t dare watch any horror films although she’s (ironically) dying to see one. Though a bit late to the party and was an actual Force non-believer, she now finds the Star Wars franchise quite fascinating (fun fact: it was a crazy Jar Jar Binks/Sith theory that drew her in).
