Zoeys Extraordinary Playlist Season 2 New Cast & Returning Character Guide

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist is back for season 2 and some new characters have joined the talented main cast of NBC’s musical dramedy. Created by Austin Weisberg, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist centers on Zoey Clarke (Jane Levy), a nerdy programmer at SPRQ Point, a San Francisco-based tech company. When an earthquake struck while Zoey was getting an MRI, she was imbued with thousands of songs from an iPod, which somehow granted her the ability to hear the innermost feelings of those around her, which are expressed in musical numbers dubbed ‘heart songs’.

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist season 2 begins six weeks after the season 1 finale, which saw the tragic and heartbreaking death of Zoey’s father Mitch (Peter Gallagher) from progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). Not only must Zoey pick up the pieces and adjust to numerous changes at SPRQ Point, but the loss of her father also robbed Zoey of her power to hear heart songs. Meanwhile, Zoey’s two romantic suitors, Max (Skylar Astin) and Simon (John Clarence Stewart) are still waiting for her to choose between them, but they also both struck up a surprising friendship with Mo (Alex Newell), Zoey’s best friend and next-door neighbor.

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist season 2 continues Zoey’s journey as he gains more power and responsibility at SPRQ Point, which coincides (to her chagrin) with her regaining her heart song powers. Meanwhile, some new characters pop into Zoey’s life as her boss and mentor, Joan Bennett (Lauren Graham), makes a major life decision that also alters Zoey’s career.
