10 Most Powerful Exclusive Pokémon in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl

Every generation of Pokémon games has launched with two similar versions, and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are no exceptions. As is usually the case with each paired set of games, there aren’t any significant differences in terms of plot or gameplay, but there are several Pokémon that can only be caught in one version or the other.

With about twenty unique evolution lines to each game, fans will want to know where to find some of their favorite Pokémon. However, among these exclusives, some stand above the rest in terms of competitive viability. Luckily for those only looking to purchase one of these games, online trading means that no trainer has to go through too much trouble to obtain monsters from the other version.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond

Gliscor

Gliscor was first introduced in Generation IV, and it’s notable for both its typing and evolution method. Gliscor evolves from Gligar, but it isn’t as simple as reaching a certain level. Instead, trainers must have their Gligar level up at night while also holding a Razor Fang.

The reward is a Pokémon with the rare Ground and Flying-type combination. This mix gives Gliscor access to several strong attacks, like Earthquake, and gives Gliscor Ground-type immunity. Wild Gliscors cannot be caught in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond. The only way to attain one in-game is to catch Gligar (which is also exclusive to this version) and evolve it.

Tyranitar

Tyranitar is a large bipedal Pokémon with strong offensive stats and a unique type combination. At this point, Tyranitar is the only Dark and Rock-type Pokémon in the franchise, and he’s a dangerous offensive threat that can take out most opponents quickly. To counterbalance this, Tyranitar has the lowest speed of all Pseudo-Legendary Pokémon.

Tyranitar’s Mega Evolution was tied for the highest Attack stat of all Rock-type Pokémon and had the highest attack stat of all Dark-type Pokémon in the game, but unfortunately, this form is not included in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond.

Scizor

Scyther was one of the more popular Pokémon in the first generation of games, and it got an equally-beloved evolution in Pokémon Gold and Silver. Scizor adds Steel typing to Scyther’s Bug-typing, but it’s the only instance in the franchise of an evolution not increasing its stats over its base form.

Instead, Scizor simply shifts 40 Speed into 20 Attack and 20 Defense. Scizor can only be attained in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond by trading a Scyther while holding a metal coat. While this isn’t as easy as catching one in the wild, it’s the only way Scizor has been available since its introduction.

The Legendary Dogs

Suicune, Entei, and Raikou, also known as the Legendary Dogs, were first introduced in Pokémon Gold and Silver. In addition to being strong combatants for their time, they’re also famous for being some of the rarest Pokémon in the franchise.

In Brilliant Diamond, players can find these three Pokémon in Ramanas Park after defeating the Elite Four and Champion. Then, players must buy the Discovery Slate three times, catch the Regi trio, and buy the Johto Slate three times. This will allow players to catch Suicune, Entei, and Raikou.

Dialga

Dialga is the cover-legendary for both Pokémon Shining Diamond and the original version, so it makes sense that this legendary dragon is exclusive to this version of the game.

Dialga is one of the strongest dual-type steel Pokémon because its Dragon and Steel-typing give it only two weaknesses (Ground and Fighting). Dialga can contribute to almost any trainer’s party with its solid offensive stats and considerable bulk. Dialga is even more powerful in-lore than in the game’s combat. In the Pokémon universe, Dialga is a member of the creation trio that controls time.

Pokémon Shining Pearl

Slowbro and Slowking

Slowpoke is one of the original 150 Pokémon, and, despite his humorous personality, his two possible evolutions are both competitively viable.

Mega Slowbro was one of the best defensive Pokémon in the game despite being ranked as one of the worst-designed Mega Evolutions, but even its standard form can tank hits from almost anything. Slowking trades some of its Defensive stats for Special Attack, though it still remains tanky do its ability, Regenerator. Slowking regenerates one-third of its HP whenever it switches out of the active spot.

Sableye

Sableye is a scary-looking Dark and Ghost-type Pokémon that relies on status effects and tricks instead of pure power in battle. Its Prankster ability means that any status moves are given priority, so it’s able to take advantage of moves like Will-O-Wisp and Recover before even the fastest Pokémon.

Sableye’s typing also gives it a significant advantage in battles. It only has one weakness (Fairy), but it has an impressive three immunities. Any Fighting, Psychic, or Normal-type attacks will have no effect on Sableye at all.

Salamence

Salamence is one of several powerful Dragon-type Pokémon available in Shining Pearl, and it’s one of the strongest physical attackers that trainers can add to their team. This Pseudo-Legendary has a strong base Attack stat, but it can further boost this number with the move Dragon Dance and its ability, Moxie.

Salamence is likely to land multiple knockouts in combat, and, with Moxie, each K.O. raises Salmence’s Attack stat by one level. This means that this dual-type Dragon and Flying Pokémon can quickly snowball into an almost unstoppable force.

Palkia

All Pokémon possess control over immense power, but few Pokémon have domain over something as impressive as time itself. This unique responsibility means that Palkia ranks among the strongest Sinnoh Legendaries and Mythical Pokémon.

Water and Dragon dual-typing make Dialga effective both offensively and defensively. Trainers will want to consider moves like Spacial Rend, Hydro Pump, and Thunder to ensure super-effective hits on as many enemies as possible. Players can find Dialga at the Spear Pillar, where legend says that Arceus created Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina.

The Legendary Birds

Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres were three of the very first Legendary Pokémon in the franchise, and each of them is exclusive in this generation to Pokémon Shining Pearl.

To reflect their power, these Pokémon are difficult to obtain. Players must defeat the Elite Four, obtain the National Pokédex, travel to Ramanas Park, trade Mysterious Shards for three Kanto Plates, then place the Plates to battle Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos (in the order). This, unfortunately, means that this trio is not available to players for their first run through the Gyms or Elite Four, but they are potent additions for any post-game content.
