Ty Burrell is a 52-year-old actor who is most known for his role as Phil Dunphy on ABC’s Modern Family. The Oregon-born actor has been acting since the early 2000s, however, and deserves to be praised for his other roles, no matter how small they may be.

Along with being on a hit sitcom, Burrell has also done work with off-Broadway plays, the MCU, and mega motion pictures. Let’s take a look back at other projects Burrell has been apart of that we totally forgot about.

10 FINDING DORY

It’s always fun to see animated characters brought to life by the voices behind them. In 2016s Finding Dory, we all knew Ellen Degeneres was the voice behind Dory, but Ty Burrell was also the voice behind our favorite psychic Baluga Whale, Bailey.

If you can remember back, Bailey was friends with Dory’s childhood friend Destiny. Bailey had these fun powers to see what others couldn’t see and made fun noises. What’s even better is Ty worked alongside Modern Family co-star Ed O’Neill.

9 ROUGH NIGHT

In 2017, Scarlett Johansson starred as Jess in Rough Night. It was an all-female lead movie adjacent to Kristen Wiig’s Bridesmaids. While the girls are off in Miami celebrating Jess’s soon-to-be nuptials, they unintentionally get themselves into some serious trouble.

When the girls head off to the beach, they meet their neighbors, Lea and Pietro (Demi Moore and Ty Burrell). As it turns out, they’re swingers and are totally interested in some group fun. Seeing Ty as Pietro was a fun surprise for fans who man not be used to seeing him act as someone so provocative.

8 STORKS

In 2016, Warner Bros. came out with the animated movie, Storks. The family-friendly movie was about two storks who accidentally find themselves in a pickle after creating a baby girl in an old factory, and thus have to get the baby girl back to her family.

In the film, Ty Burrell voiced Henry Gardner, the father of the household. In the film, Henry is overworked but shows a dedication to his son when he yearns for a younger sibling. In the film, Henry is married to Sarah, who is voiced by Jennifer Aniston. Unfortunately, Storks didn’t go over as well as some of his other animated works, but it was still a surprising role for Burrell.

7 BACK TO YOU

Back to You was a sitcom that only lasted for one season but had an amazing cast of acting legends. The show starred Josh Gad, Kelsey Grammer, Patricia Heaton, Fred Willard, Ayda Field, and of course, Ty Burrell.

The show followed the hard workers over at WURG News 9 in Pittsburgh. The two leading anchors look great on camera but have a hostile relationship off-screen. Burrell plays Gary Crezyzewski, a field reporter who’s dream is to be a leading anchor.

6 NATIONAL TREASURE: BOOK OF SECRETS

If you can remember back to 2007s National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Ty Burrell had a small—but comical—role. The treasure-hunting movie shows Nicolas Cage on the hunt for answers revolving around the assassination of President Lincoln.

Cage’s love interest, Abigail, begins dating a White House correspondent, Connor, who’s played by Burrell. His moments in the movie are small, but he does a great job at playing the silly guy with a hardcore crush on Abigail.

5 IN GOOD COMPANY

In Good Company was the rom-com starring Dennis Quaid, Topher Grace, and Scarlett Johansson. In the film, an advertising exec’s company is taken over by another company, which now means he has a new boss.

The only problem is his new boss is half his age and has different ideas and values than he does. Ty plays a small role as Enrique Colon, a worker at the ad agency.

4 FRIENDS WITH MONEY

Friends with Money had an all-star cast of Jennifer Aniston, Catherine Keener, Frances McDormand, and Joan Cusack. Aniston plays Olivia, who is the black sheep in the group of friends. While everyone seems to be swimming in money, Olvia is working her tail off as a maid to make ends meet.

The film didn’t crush it in the box office, but Ty Burrell did play Other Aaron, friends with Simon McBurney’s character, Aaron.

3 FUR: AN IMAGINARY PORTRAIT OF DIANE ARBUS

Fur was a drama that hit screens in 2006 that focused on famed photographer Diane Airbus (played by Nicole Kidman). In the movie, Diane is at a fork in the road with the connection she has to her neighbor Lionell (played by Robert Downey Jr.) and her husband Allan (played by Burrell).

Sadly for Burrell’s character, Diane begins a romantic relationship with Lionell, which only gets more complicated when she figures out he’s dying. With a budget of $16.8 million, the film only made around $2 million in theaters.

2 THE INCREDIBLE HULK

If you have seen Marvel’s Incredible Hulk, then you may remember Burrell portraying a man named Leonard Samson. Leonard is a psychiatrist who starts having a relationship with Betty when Bruce Banner is not around, so it’s safe to say he’s not the most beloved character in the MCU.

However, it was fun seeing Ty Burrell in a new universe. Burrell ended up not having a huge role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but then again, neither did its star, Edward Norton.

1 THE SUPER HERO SQUAD SHOW

The Super Hero Squad was an animated show created by Marvel for its line of heroes. The show only lasted two seasons, but it was created by the one and only Stan Lee, which is an incredible person to have on your creative team.

Ty Burrell voiced Captain Marvel in three episodes for the show from 2010 to 2011. Between working in big films to voicing iconic roles for animation, it’s clear Ty Burrell can do it all!
