Bachelorette Fans Call Out Strip Dodgeball Date For Double Standards

Season 16 of The Bachelorette is already off to a controversial start with fans calling out the double standard of the strip dodge-ball group date. Clare Crawley’s road to being The Bachelorette was shaky, starting with her appearance on Juan Pablo’s infamous season of The Bachelor. In the season, fans witnessed her deliver one of the most explosive exits after she was sent home at the final two.

Since then, controversy has seemed to follow the 39-year-old hairstylist, who found herself in a media circus after she was chosen to be the franchise’s next lead for the 2020 season. The starlet made waves for being the first Bachelorette in her late 30s, but then Crawley “blew up” The Bachelorette when rumors swirled that she left the show early after falling for contestant Dale Moss. Since the premiere, fans have been glued to the television as Crawley dates the other men even though the impending blow-up looms over the Palm Springs resort. On the latest episode, a controversial group date in the form of strip dodgeball became one of the most cringeworthy moments in Bachelor history. The tension during the date could be seen from the start, with several of the contestants visibly uncomfortable with the rules of the date, which resulted in the losing team stripping down to nothing. One contestant, Brendan, opted out of stripping completely naked, and Yosef Aborady, the season’s potential villain, also vocalized his anger about the date, calling Clare “classless.”

Now, Bachelor Nation is calling out the egregious double standard of allowing men to strip, which fans are saying would never happen if the roles were reversed. A fan posted on Twitter about it, “Can you imagine if The Bachelor made a bunch of women play strip dodgeball? He’d get canceled immediately #bachelorette #clare.” Others called out how the show doesn’t fit in the progressive 2020 frame of mind, “How is this honestly airing in 2020? Can you imagine if a bachelor asked 10 women to completely strip for dodgeball? You can’t? That’s because it’s messed up!”

#bachelorette incredibly inappropriate. Strip dodge ball? She should be sued for sexual harrassment.

Fans are picking up on the inappropriate objectification of the contestants and seemingly so are the men involved. While The Bachelor is known to objectify its female participants, the degree to which the dodgeball date was taken is where the obvious double standard lies, as it’s highly unlikely a Bachelor would demand female contestants participate in a strip dodgeball game. It should also be mentioned that Crawley sent contestant Brandon Goss home in the same episode after he revealed that he initially came on the show only because he found her attractive. While it’s debatable whether or not this is a red flag on Goss’ end, the fact that she sent him because of it shows that Crawley has her own set of double standards when it comes to objectification.

The show’s double standard coupled with Crawley’s hot and cold behavior is another reason Bachelor Nation is calling out the hypocritical nature of the season. While the season was originally anticipated due to the casting shakeups revealed before airing, it seems as if fans are now seeing the show in a whole new light. Bachelor Nation will have to see how it all plays out in the following weeks.
