Editor’s Note: A lawsuit has been filed against Activision Blizzard by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, which alleges the company has engaged in abuse, discrimination, and retaliation against its female employees. Activision Blizzard has denied the allegations. The full details of the Activision Blizzard lawsuit (content warning: rape, suicide, abuse, harassment) are being updated as new information becomes available.

One skilled Twitch streamer figured out how to play Call of Duty: Vanguard using Nintendo’s infamous DK Bongos controller, and even built up an impressive killstreak along the way. The game industry giant first devised this drum-shaped controller for the Donkey Konga spin-off series, a line of rhythm games in which players must help Donkey Kong and his friends become musical legends by drumming along to various songs. In addition to the first Donkey Konga and its two sequels (the latter of which was only released in Japan), the Donkey Kong drums would also have use in the 2005 platformer Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat, which tasked players with helping DK navigate across colorful landscapes by pounding and clapping along to prompts.

Outside of their official use in the Donkey Kong games, modders have creatively figured out how to play plenty of other games with DK’s patented Bongos controllers over the years, the most prominent example being a YouTuber by the handle of Super Louis 64. Last December, he stunned viewers by defeating Dark Souls’ colossal Tower Knight using the DK Bongos. Earlier that year, he utilized the miniature drum-shaped peripheral to play through 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare – a feat that seems to have inspired others to take to the battlefield with a pair of plastic percussive instruments.

Kotaku reported that a Twitch streamer named DeanoBeano recently used the DK Bongos controller to ramp up a streak of roughly 105 kills and assists in Call Of Duty: Vanguard. Citing Super Louis 64’s Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare playthrough as an inspiration, DeanoBeano describes how he was able to maximize the number of functions he could perform on the Donkey Kong Bongo controller’s five buttons to shoot, crouch, and slide just as well as the players using more traditional controllers. This is hardly the first time that DeanoBeano has played Call of Duty using a musical instrument – he played 2020’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War with a recorder, and even a real drum set, in the past.

Call Of Duty: Vanguard is the latest installment of the long-running military FPS series, having launched on all current-generation consoles in September. Reception among fans and critics has been mixed so far, with Call of Duty: Vanguard’s single-player campaign and multiplayer gameplay receiving reasonable praise; but fans criticized the traditional Call of Duty Zombies mode and overall lack of any innovations over past Call of Duty games. Call Of Duty: Vanguard is even seeing a few technical issues post-launch as well, with the game’s Secrets of the Pacific update being pulled shortly after its release last week due to it causing crashes during multiplayer rounds.

In the meantime, it’s always interesting to see how creative some players can be during multiplayer rounds of Call of Duty: Vanguard – especially when it involves an outlandish alternative controller like the DK Bongos. The 105 players DeanoBeano bested in his playthrough of Call Of Duty: Vanguard probably didn’t imagine they would be taken down by a pair of plastic drums – until it actually happened.
