Child’s Play Franchise: Chucky’s 10 Creepiest Quotes

From blood-curdling threats to snarky one-liners, Child’s Play’s Chucky certainly has a way with words.

There are a lot of faces of slasher movies, but Chucky is one of the most famous characters of the genre. Chucky was first introduced in Tom Holland’s 1988 horror film called Child’s Play. Chucky was created after the fictional serial killer Charles Lee Ray is shot by pursuing police. As he dies, he transfers his soul into a Good Guys doll using forbidden magic.

Child’s Play sparked a franchise which has resulted in a total of eight movies to date, including the recently-released reboot of the same name. With Child’s Play still being a fresh movie to theaters, it’s time to take a look back at some of Chucky’s most memorable quotes. Here are some of the notorious villain’s creepiest lines in the franchise.

10 “WE’RE FRIENDS ‘TIL THE END!”

With the Good Guys dolls being children’s toys, they came with certain catchphrases built-in that would appeal to kids. Several of Chucky’s catchphrases are memorable, but one of the most iconic, present in almost all of the movies, is “we’re friends ‘til the end”.

It’s such a chilling quote because, while it can be taken as a heartfelt message to a child, it also takes on a much more sinister meaning. Everybody who has seen the movies knows that the end will probably come sooner rather than later.

9 “OKAY, LADY, YOU KNOW WHAT? YOU’RE NEXT.”

While Chucky has always had a sick sense of humor, one of the funnier entries to the series was the 2017 film Cult of Chucky. This film sees Nica in a facility after she was framed for murdering her family members. Nica’s doctor transfers her to a medium-security hospital called Harrogate, where Nica is introduced to several other patients.

One of the first people she meets is Angela, who believes she is dead and that nobody can see her. When Chucky comes to kill Nica, he runs into Angela, who thoroughly annoys him. After some amusing dialogue between the two characters, Chucky says, “Okay, lady, you know what? You’re next. I’m gonna be right back.” Yes, it’s more of a joke than anything, but it just defines the dark humor and underlying menace of the character.

8 “IT LOOKS LIKE THE KID FELL OFF THE UGLY TREE AND HIT EVERY BRANCH ON THE WAY DOWN!”

One of the main characters introduced in Seed of Chucky was Glen (or Glenda). The doll was Chucky and Tiffany’s son (or daughter) who didn’t want to be a killer. One of the running jokes of the film was how ugly the doll was.

At the beginning of the film, Glen is being used as a ventriloquist dummy by a character named Psychs, who is quite cruel to Glen and calls him ugly. This continues when Chucky meets him as he says, “It looks like the kid fell off the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.” In some ways, the poor doll’s situation is as horrible as the fate that befalls many of the movie’s characters.

7 “I’VE GOT A NEW GAME, SPORT. IT’S CALLED HIDE THE SOUL. AND GUESS WHAT? YOU’RE IT.”

While Child’s Play 2 didn’t live up to the first one, it did introduce one of Chucky’s greatest lines. In the earlier Child’s Play movies, Chucky was set on transferring his soul into Andy Barclay so that he didn’t live the rest of his life inside a doll. In the second film, Andy goes to live with a foster family after he is separated from his ailing mother.

Naturally, Chucky finds Andy and once again tries to transfer his soul to him. After he ties Andy down to his bed, Chucky says, “I’ve got a new game, sport. It’s called hide the soul. And guess what? You’re it.”

6 “I JUST CAN’T WITH THIS GUY! I DON’T KNOW WHETHER TO KILL HIM OR JUST TAKE NOTES.”

One of the main characters in Cult of Chucky was Dr. Foley, played by Michael Therriault. Foley is Nica’s doctor who walked her through therapy, so that she admitted Chucky wasn’t real and took responsibility for her family members’ deaths.

Towards the end of the film, it is revealed that Foley mistreated Nica during their sessions, but she doesn’t remember because she was drugged. After Chucky finds out what was happening to Nica, he almost feels pity for her and proceeds to hit Foley over the head with a glass, after which he says, “I just can’t with this guy! I don’t know whether to kill him or just take notes.”

5 “YOU HAVE A DATE WITH DEATH!”

While Chucky has a lot of wise-cracks in all of the Child’s Play movies, the first film is often considered the best in the series. That being said, the first film also has memorable lines such as when Chucky says, “I have a date with a six-year-old boy… and you have a date with death!”

Chucky says the line to Dr. Death, who Chucky originally thought could get him out of the Good Guy doll. Dr. Death tells him the only way to become human again is to transfer his soul into the first person that he revealed his true identity to. Chucky tells Dr. Death he has a date with Andy, before stabbing a voodoo doll to kill Dr. Death.

4 “A TRUE CLASSIC NEVER GOES OUT OF STYLE.”

Bride of Chucky is notable for introducing Chucky’s wife Tiffany, played by Jennifer Tilly. In Bride of Chucky, Tiffany and Chucky are getting a ride from Jade and Jesse, when Chief Warren Kincaid gets a little too nosey in their van.

Wanting Chucky to be more like Martha Stewart, Tiffany tells Chucky that he needs a better weapon than a kitchen knife. Chucky uses a bunch of nails, but after Kincaid turns out to not actually be dead, he finishes him off by stabbing him to death and then says, “A true classic never goes out of style”.

3 “NO, SON. VI-O-LINS ARE BAD. THAT SCREECHY MUSIC IS GONNA RUIN THE WHOLE G*****N COUNTRY!”

After Glen travels to Hollywood and finds his parents, he quickly finds out that they are nothing like he hoped they would be. Glen is understandably off-put by the fact that Tiffany and Chucky kill people, which he gets to experience the very first day he meets them.

After asking his parents why they kill people, they tell him that it’s an addiction. Glen proceeds to ask if violence is bad, to which Chucky responds, “No, son. Vi-o-lins are bad. That screechy music is gonna ruin the whole godd*** country!”. It was a funny line that perfectly sums up how silly Seed of Chucky was, but still delivers that underlying hint of menace.

2 “BEHOOVES. LISTEN TO YOU. YOU SOUND LIKE HANNIBAL LECTER.”

In Cult of Chucky, Charles Lee Ray figures out a way to put his soul in multiple Good Guys, allowing him to be in several places at once. When one of the dolls is talking about killing Andy, he uses the word “behooves”.

The other Chucky makes fun of him for using such a word and says, “Behooves. Listen to you. You sound like Hannibal Lecter. Can’t believe they canceled that show.” This is, of course, a reference to the show Hannibal, which was canceled in 2015. As violent as Hannibal was, it’s no surprise that Chucky would be a fan.

1 “OOPS, I DID IT AGAIN!”

Throughout the Child’s Play series, there are a lot of references to pop culture. In Seed of Chucky, Britney Spears appears (an actress playing her part). After stealing a car, Chucky is driving erratically, since he is only steering and Glen is controlling the gas.

A car begins honking at Chucky and speeds around him. We catch a glimpse of the license plate, which reads “BRITNEY1,” before we see Britney Spears flip Chucky off. Chucky returns the favor and then proceeds to run her off a cliff. Her car explodes and Chucky says, “Oops, I did it again.”
