Cobra Kai 5 Times Robby Was A Hero (& 5 Times He Was A Villain)

With characters who switch allegiances so often, Cobra Kai is filled with people who have played both sides of the villain/hero coin. At times, they’re incredibly likable and viewers want to root for them. In other instances, that very same character can be easy to dislike and will have audiences ripping their hair out over their decisions.

Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan) rides that line of hero and villain probably better than anyone else on the series. He goes back and forth throughout the course of the show. Robby has shown flashes of being a bad guy even when he’s mostly good and vice versa.

10 Villain: He Was A Thief

Robby is a kid who was dealt a pretty crappy hand in life. His dad was never really around and his mom is more interested in drinking and her latest hookup than actually parenting him. So, it’s not surprising that he engaged in some criminal activities.

When the series begins, he’s seen scamming people with his friends. That includes impersonating a store employee to steal laptops and sell them off. It becomes clear that he and his buddies have pulled off various schemes like this in the past. He is easily influenced by those around him.

9 Hero: Stops His Friends From Robbing LaRusso Auto

Things begin to finally turn around for Robby once he gets a job at the LaRusso Auto dealership. Initially, he only does it to piss off his father, knowing that Daniel LaRusso is his dad’s greatest rival. However, while working there he finds something of a family.

Robby feels accepted by the LaRussos. However, his old friends want him to use his position so they can steal parts from the dealership. Robby gets his first true moment to shine here, using various karate moves to fight them off and protect LaRusso Auto.

8 Villain: Runs From The Police

After the terrible events in the season two finale, Robby is set to be in a lot of trouble. Due to his unfortunate actions, Miguel ends up in the hospital. The season wraps up without knowing his whereabouts and that’s how things begin when season three premieres.

That’s because Robby is on the run from the cops. While it’s understandable that he was scared, Daniel has the right idea when he tells him to turn himself in. It would lighten the sentence and the more he ran, the worse things would be. Of course, Robby sees this as a bad idea.

7 Hero: Saves Demetri At The Mall

Cobra Kai 5 Times Robby Was A Hero (& 5 Times He Was A Villain)

After officially becoming a member of Miyagi-Do, and arguably the star pupil, Robby grows closer to Sam and Demetri. While he forms a real bond with Sam, Demetri is more of an enigma and comes across as nothing more than an annoyance to the rest of Miyagi-Do.

Still, Demetri goes to the mall with Sam and Robby. He ends up getting chased around by Hawk and other Cobra Kai members. When he thinks he has been left alone, Robby and Sam arrive and fight off everyone, saving Demetri from a certain beatdown.

6 Villain: Hides The Medal Of Honor Truth

Cobra Kai 5 Times Robby Was A Hero (& 5 Times He Was A Villain)

During season two, some of the Cobra Kai students vandalize Mr. Miyagi’s old home. The worst thing that they do is steal his Medal of Honor. It is heartbreaking for Daniel and Sam. Miguel finds out that Hawk did it and beats him in a fight before taking it back.

Miguel brings it to the LaRusso home with no other intention than just to do the right thing. Robby answers the door and takes the medal but doesn’t tell Sam that Miguel dropped it off. Instead, he lies and says it was found randomly in the dirt in the yard.

5 Hero: Overcomes His Bullies

Cobra Kai 5 Times Robby Was A Hero (& 5 Times He Was A Villain)

Robby ends up spending time at a juvenile detention center for his actions at the end of season two. While there, he is relentlessly bullied by a few guys, with the main perpetrator being someone named Shawn. Robby does his best to only play defense and not escalate things.

In a surprising twist, his heroic moment of overcoming them is actually fueled by the show’s biggest villain, John Kreese. He visits Robby and suggests striking first. While it’s not really heroic advice, it’s hard not to root for him beating his bullies and earning their respect.

4 Villain: He Injures Miguel

The massive school fight that concludes the second season has repercussions that reverberate throughout all of season three and most likely beyond. While there are some major moments all throughout the brawl, the biggest comes right at the end when Miguel fights Robby.

Miguel chooses not to break Robby’s arm, showing mercy unlike he did in season one. Robby pops up and angrily goes after him, firing off several strikes, including a kick that sends him flying over the guardrail. Miguel lands on the railing and is unable to walk for several months.

3 Hero: Tries To Stop The School Fight

As noted, things during the school fight escalate to the point where Robby goes too far and seriously injures Miguel. However, he was actually playing the role of the good guy once things were getting going. He shows up just as Sam and Tory start fighting.

Even when he hears the upsetting news that Sam kissed Miguel the night before, it looks like Robby is still trying to stop the fight. He breaks it up and holds Tory back, seemingly attempting to calm her down. Miguel sees his hands on her and pounces but if he didn’t, this might’ve ended differently.

2 Villain: Stands With Kreese

Cobra Kai 5 Times Robby Was A Hero (& 5 Times He Was A Villain)

Everything that has happened to Robby has helped shape his path. Johnny was never really there for him and when he tries, something goes wrong. Daniel was a father figure but when he turns Robby in, the teen is quick to blame him and kick him out of his life.

It’s the fact that John Kreese gives him helpful advice that gives Robby a new person to look up to. Everyone knows that Kreese is bad news but at the end of season three, Robby chooses to stand by his side and send away the LaRussos, Miguel, and Johnny.

1 Hero: Shows Resilience At The All-Valey

The entire first season all built up to the All-Valley Karate Tournament just like the original The Karate Kid film did. Miguel was the top fighter for Cobra Kai, while Robby entered as an unaffiliated party. In the semi-finals, Hawk gets disqualified for attacking Robby after a point.

That sets up Robby vs. Miguel for the championship. Robby is seriously hurt but he refuses to quit. Daniel suggests calling the match off but Robby wants to finish it. Even though he loses because Miguel goes after the injury, Robby shows a ton of heart in this scene.
