Fallout 76s A Christmas Carol Casts Bethesdas Pete Hines As Jacob Marley

The Fallout For Hope charity fundraiser is putting on A Christmas Carol in Fallout 76, and Bethesda’s Pete Hines will play the role of Jacob Marley. This holiday season marks the second year of Fallout For Hope, a charity initiative for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and other causes around the world. Since beginning in 2020, the event has since raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity. The Fallout For Hope charity drive runs through December 19 and includes a plethora of Fallout-themed festivities for fans to enjoy.

The inaugural Fallout For Hope charity drive was a group effort featuring over 150 contributors including streamers, content creators, as well as Bethesda vice president Pete Hines. As part of the festivities, players streamed Fallout content such as PvP events, in-game karaoke, and Fallout-themed cooking classes. There were also main stage events that hosted big-names in the Fallout universe, including streamers and media personalities. Fallout For Hope 2020 was a huge success in many ways, but this year’s charity fundraiser holds surprises of its own, including an in-game performance of a classic Christmas tale.

As reported by GamesRadar+, Fallout 76’s A Christmas Carol cast Bethesda’s Pete Hines as Jacob Marley, the first spirit to visit Ebenezer Scrooge on Christmas Eve. The stage production airs on Friday, December 17 at 3 PM PST (6 PM EST) and follows a “troupe of surviving actors” traveling Fallout 76’s Appalachia “performing in exchange for food, lodging, and caps” – according to Fallout For Hope organizer Kenneth Vigue. The story is “meta,” due to the play itself being about the actors putting on the play. In this case, the play in question is A Christmas Carol. On top of Pete Hines’ casting as Jacob Marley, other Bethesda voice-actors like Wes Johnson from The Elder Scrolls franchise, Craig Sechler who voices Fallout 3’s Butch, Mike Rosson who voiced many of the ghouls in Fallout 3, and Courtney Taylor who voiced many of the female survivors in Fallout 4.

Fallout For Hope’s charity fundraiser has already raised over $25,000 since it launched on December 4. Though the main-stage production of Fallout 76’s A Christmas Carol doesn’t air until the end of the fundraiser, there are other Fallout 76 events preceding the show. “Whose Apocalypse Is It Anyway,” a riff on “Whose Line Is It Anyway,” is scheduled for December 11, and New Vegas Casino Night begins on December 15.

Fallout 76’s A Christmas Carol seems like it can be a fun twist on the classic tale. Chaos will most likely ensue – as seems to be a pattern in Fallout 76’s Appalachia – given the surviving cast is forced to perform alongside raiders, the mad, and the Brotherhood of Steel. Pete Hines is a particularly interesting addition to the performance and may draw a large crowd interested to see him haunt Wes Johnson’s Scrooge.
