A G.I. Joe cross-over is coming to World of Tanks, injecting a bit of 80s nostalgia into the popular online game. The new update adds two tanks to the popular online game, as well as two new tank commanders,

World of Tanks has made a home for numerous crossovers, including other iconic toy brands such as Hot Wheels. The decade-old MMO PC game has gained tons of momentum over the years, even being able to attract celebrities like the infamous Chuck Norris who also appeared in the game during the holiday season last year. Now, the game is adding other military legends, albeit fictional ones.

G.I. Joe’s Duke is joining the World of Tanks battle, but he’s not coming alone as Cobra Commander will also enter the fray as part of the new update, which releases today. Players will be able to get new skins for the Joe-themed TS-5 and the menacing Cobra-styled T-54, each of which transform into the Breakthrough Tank and Battle Operational Assault vehicle respectively. Similar to World of Tanks’ WWE event, players will also be able to deck out their tanks with various emblems and imagery from the iconic toy brand.

Players will also be able to use Duke and Cobra Commander as crew captains as part of Prime Gaming from March 18. The World of Tanks brand has been growing and expanding for quite some time. Last year, the series got a Nintendo Switch counterpart called World of Tanks: Blitz, but it wasn’t received as well as the main game. Still, all of these various updates and an ambition to spread its wings (or tank treads) as a larger IP is still impressive and shows there’s still plenty of life in the series despite its age.

With talent like Chuck Norris, huge IP like G.I. Joe and Hot Wheels, and new games for the franchise all ensuring there’s a steady stream of content for fans, it’s likely it’ll be here to stay for quite a while. Not only will fans benefit, but World of Tanks is likely to attract plenty of newcomers for those looking for a healthy dose of childhood nostalgia (or just cool skins).
