Following the aftermath of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition’s disastrous launch, developer Rockstar Games is awarding Grand Theft Auto Online players who own the maligned trilogy a Prison outfit inspired by Claude’s prologue appearance in Grand Theft Auto III. The long-rumored GTA remaster trilogy was announced in October in celebration of Grand Theft Auto III’s 20th anniversary and was released on November 11th across modern consoles and PC. The remastered collection allows modern audiences to experience Rockstar’s classic groundbreaking titles revamped with enhancements and improvements, though the release has seen backlash from fans due to numerous bugs, inconsistencies, and lack of polish that deem it unplayable.

Along with the announcement of the Definitive Edition, Rockstar Games teased brand-new Grand Theft Auto III content for Grand Theft Auto Online in celebration of its 20th anniversary. These were hinted to be new clothing items and unique outfits that could be earned through special events within upcoming dissimilar updates. Shortly after, Rockstar launched the first of many special commemorative Grand Theft Auto III cosmetic items coming free to Grand Theft Auto Online for all players.

Shared by RockstarINTEL reporter videotech_ on Twitter and officially revealed on Rockstar Games Newswire as a part of a new weekly update, players who own Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will be able to unlock the free Grand Theft Auto III Liberty City State Penitentiary coveralls in Grand Theft Auto Online. Interested players will need to attach their PlayStation Network or Xbox Live to Rockstar’s Social Club via its website before November 25th to unlock the exclusive outfit. However, many players are angered at Rockstar for locking a unique item that’s behind a broken and unpolished remastered collection, as Twitter user Pluto_3425 expressed.

So pretty much if I pay $60 for a buggy unfinished game and play it. I get a reskinned coverall outfit? That’s fantastic really. Good job Rockstar Games, you’re really blazing it through the industry with these types of decisions.

Despite the developers announcing that the remaster collection would be updated and improved upon over time, disappointed players have been flooding Rockstar‘s support to request refunds. Strangely, consumers are being met with unresolved delays or rejected GTA remaster trilogy inquires and have taken to different measures. Every version of the Definitive Edition has now been review-bombed on Metacritic and user review scores across multiple platforms are now sitting below a 1.0, making it one of the worst launched titles of 2021 with new issues regarding the title being discovered every day.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition may have only been released, but it’s quickly becoming one of the most controversial games of the year. With graphical glitches, terrible performance, and out-of-place game world changes, many believe it to be the worst Rockstar release to date. The unique Grand Theft Auto III callback outfit could be considered exotic for Grand Theft Auto Online fans, but might not be enough to hold out its own to boost sales for the inauspicious remastered collection.
